British doomsters ORANGE GOBLIN have issued the following update:
"Songwriting for the next ORANGE GOBLIN album is ongoing but looks very promising with the skeletons of four or five new songs already in place. Two rough working titles for the new songs so far include 'Red Tide Rising' and 'The Bishop's Wolf'."
ORANGE GOBLIN previously announced that it had postponed the recording sessions for the band's new album "due to unforeseen circumstances." According to the group, "complications beyond the band's control have meant that we have fallen behind schedule with the writing process and a decision was made to put the recording back to ensure that we deliver the best album possible. [Producer] Sanford Parker [NACHTMYSTIUM, LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR, PELICAN, RWAKE, UNEARTHLY TRANCE, VENOMOUS CONCEPT, MINSK, BURIED AT SEA] will still be in the producer's chair when we do hit the studio. We apologize to the fans, but can assure them that it will be worth the wait!"
ORANGE GOBLIN's performance at the Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Holland on April 23, 2009 was scheduled to be recorded for a limited-edition, vinyl-only live album.
The band's latest CD, "Healing through Fire", was released in May 2007 through Sanctuary Records. The album was initially released as a CD with a bonus DVD featuring live footage from the band's headline show at London's Mean Fiddler in December 2006.

BIGFOOT Recording Three New Songs
BIGFOOT, the new band featuring former members of ARTIMUS PYLEDRIVER, GONZALEZ and ASPHALT BLASTER, entered Blue Light Studios in Douglasville, Georgia on January 27 with producer Rachel Bolan (SKID ROW) and engineer Brian Collins to begin recording three new songs.
Jim Hall and Micheal Faulkner enlisted drummer Kevin Watford (ex-GONZALEZ) and second guitarist Evil Jim Wright (of ASPHALT BLASTER, SPECTREMEN, and THE EVILS) to help form the core of BIGFOOT. They then tapped Jett Bryant of the ROCK CITY DROPOUTS to be the voice.

16: Two More New Songs Posted Online
Legendary sludge misanthropes 16 have posted two more tracks — "So Broken Down" and "Man Interrupted" — on their MySpace page. The songs come off the group's new album, "Bridges To Burn", which is scheduled for release on January 20, 2009 (January 26 internationally) through Relapse Records.
16, which has reformed with the original "Dropout" lineup of Cris Jerue (vocals), Tony Baumeister (bass), Bobby Ferry (guitar), and Jason Corley (drums), has announced announced a number of West Coast tour dates, including a "Bridges To Burn" record-release show on January 24 in Los Angeles.
Since forming in the early '90s, 16 has released a number of full-length albums and split releases. 16 has also toured the globe, sharing stages with SLAYER, NEUROSIS, GRIEF, MELVINS, UNSANE, MASTODON, HIS HERO IS GONE, BOTCH, and many more.

El Andante, the new ep from the Argentinian underground supergroup El Festival de los Viajes, is now available.

El Festival de los Viajes explores the psychedelic unknown, filling your brain with their patented brand of sonorous experimentation.
These three unpublished songs will serve as a musical appetizer while the group prepares its new album. Recorded in several sessions, it shows new facets of the band, with three tunes composed within a framework of experimentation and collage techniques.

Former KYUSS/THE OBSESSED bassist Scott Reeder has released two new songs as an "album" called "Weaver's Dawn" via iTunes worldwide, Amazonmp3.com, and ShockHound.
Commented Reeder: "I've been getting asked a lot what they sound like — had to think about it for a second... way more of a band vibe than most of my solo record, leaning toward the possibility of pulling something off live in the future.
"'Weaver's Dawn' — ended up as kind of a KYUSS vibe with THE FOGGY BOTTOM BOYS singin'. Some of the vocals were done through tin cans strung together. Had room for some bass stretching out at the end...
"'As We Become'... hard to describe. I'd imagine it would be like locking Dave Grohl, Jaz Coleman, David Gilmour and Adam Jones in a studio for a night, even though the next morning you'd probably find Jaz picking his teeth next to a big pile of bones! I recorded this one for the Missus to mark our 20th anniversary. Heavy. Sweet. Haunting.
"The artwork is a photo by Alex Solca that's an outtake from the KYUSS 'Sky Valley' shoots. We each had our personal concept stuff we worked on that ended up being completely perfect now for 'Weaver's Dawn'."

TONY IOMMI Says HEAVEN AND HELL Has Written 'About Six Or Seven New Songs'
Gary Graff of Billboard.com reports that HEAVEN AND HELL — featuring Ronnie James Dio (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass) and Vinny Appice (drums) — has started work on a new album, the group's first since "Dehumanizer" in 1992.
In the wake of a new box set of BLACK SABBATH's Dio years, "The Rules of Hell", guitarist Tony Iommi tells Billboard.com that he, Dio and bassist Geezer Butler have already convened in Los Angeles to begin writing material for the project.
"We've got about six or seven new songs," Iommi reports, "and then we stopped to do this (Metal Masters) tour. When we finish that, we'll take a couple of weeks off, then carry on writing."
The guitarist adds that he's "really pleased" with what the group has come up with so far, describing the material as "really good, pretty powerful."

DOWN/ex-PANTERA vocalist Philip Anselmo has posted the following update on the DOWN web site:
"Well, once again it's been TOO long since I last contacted all of you — but here it is!
"We've been hammering Europe to pieces as of late, and today is our last of four shows in Gothenberg, Sweden. Two shows earlier we were in Germany, which was a blast (awesome crowds!). When we played Hamburg, as a boxing journalist/enthusiast, I snuck away on the day off there and hung out with the world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitchko and his trainer Emanuel Steward for the day and into the evening!

"That experience itself has me so fucking pumped up for the upcoming five METALLICA shows, that take DOWN to uncharted territory for us like Latvia, Bulgaria, and Istanbul, Turkey. Unbelievably DOWN ends the tour by playing Tel Aviv, Israel on our own. We come in peace! (Let's hope we make it out of there in one piece!).
"ALSO!!! We've been fucking around with some new material, and we've got enough material already recorded (at least six new songs) as well as some unreleased stuff from the 'Over The Under' sessions. It's definitely enough for an awesome EP, with some surprises within.

MASTODON Debuts Three New Songs At BONNAROO; Video Available
Atlanta progressive metallers MASTODON debuted three brand new songs during their performance yesterday (Saturday, June 14) at Manchester, Tennessee's Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. Professionally filmed video footage of the new tracks — which are reportedly titled "Oblivion", "Ghost of Karilla", and "Divination" — can be viewed below (courtesy of Justin Ward).
MASTODON's new album is rumored to be based on the life of Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin (a.k.a. "Mad Monk"), a Russian mystic who is perceived as having influenced the later days of the Russian Czar Nicholas II, his wife the Tsaritsa Alexandra, and their only son the Tsarevich Alexei. His image, as well as the official teaser image for MASTODON's upcoming album, can be seen below.
MASTODON's new CD is being recorded in Atlanta with producer Brendan O'Brien. Drummer Brann Dailor told Billboard.com that so far, "everything sounds real creepy and spaced out and different." He was particularly enthused about a 15-minute jam dubbed "The Last Baron", which happily, O'Brien had no interest in making shorter or changing.
"There's so many toys to play with over at his studio, like pipe organs and all this crazy sh*t," said Dailor, who was introduced to O'Brien through Bruce Springsteen drummer Max Weinberg (his son is a big MASTODON fan). "There are little cool things we're going to do to the record that we've been wanting to do for a long time."
A recent "The Metal File" podcast from Montreal's CHOM-FM featured an audio interview with MASTODON bassist Troy Sanders. Download it at this location.

COFFINS: New Songs Available For Streaming
Tokyo, Japan's COFFINS has released two tracks from its upcoming album, "Buried Death", on the group's MySpace page. The album, to be released on 20 Buck Spin Records with distribution through Southern Lord, will hit the streets on June 24, and was lasted as part of Decibel magazine's 25 most anticipated LPs of 2008. The title track, Buried Death", will be featured on the upcoming Southern Lord sampler that will given out free on the upcoming North American BORIS tour.
The band will attack the Northeast U.S. with a splattering of live dates with labelmates THE ENDLESS BLOCKADE. COFFINS will also appear at the Maryland Deathfest at the end of May.

SLUDGE: Next 3 Songs From Upcoming Album Available For Streaming
Following on from the first streaming of three tracks from their forthcoming album "Lava", Swiss doom metallers SLUDGE will this weekend make available another three tracks on their MySpace page. "Idi Na Hui", "Below (Litanies Of Satan)" and "Machine" are the tracks that will replace the currently featured "60 MM", "Carnivore" and "Lava" on Sunday, March 30.
SAMAEL guitarist Makro, who formed SLUDGE ten years ago with drummer Pud, commented: "We decided to stream six of the nine tracks from the new album so that fans would get a chance to hear something before the album is released. It's something more and more bands are doing these days. When you think about it, it's not very realistic, and not very fair, for a lesser known band to expect people to go out and buy an album without knowing what they're getting, and we are confident that the new material will appeal to those who like their music with dirty, heavy and uncompromising doom-laden riffs. In fact, the feedback we received after making the first three titles available has more than justified our decision to stream the tracks."
"Lava" is scheduled for release on the Mighty Music label during April/May, and features two new members — Ulik on bass and Odin (HOUSTON SWING ENGINE, UNFOLD) on vocals.

With regards to the musical direction of the upcoming CD, Makro previously said, "All we can say is that this is gonna be a bit different, keeping the heavy and dirty feel from our sound, we've been experimenting more things and paths… There's gonna be blood, teeth and the doomest atmospheres we've ever recorded…"

Boston`s Roadsaw has posted samples of two new songs on their MySpace page. MASTODON Drummer: New Songs Are "Heavier Than I Expected"
Progressive metal quartet MASTODON is tentatively scheduled to enter the studio in the spring to begin recording its follow-up to 2006's "Blood Mountain". A late 2008 release via Warner Bros. Records is expected.
In a recent interview with UK's Rock Sound magazine, MASTODON drummer Brann Dailor stated about the songwriting process for the group's new album, "It's a long, arduous process. We've got a skeleton for the whole record and these huge chunks of music four of five different segments that don't have a beginning or end yet... We're just basically in the middle of the record, adding stuff, giving it a taste then adding a little more 'pepper' or 'salt.' Once all the ingredients are in there, you have to bake it — which is just playing it over and over again until it feels right. The main goal is to get the songs right so you don't have to think about the time changes — so you can relax with it and play it how it should be played. There's a level of difficulty to our stuff and if you're too wrapped up in trying to remember how many times something goes and the timing for the next riff, you can't examine the song for being a song. So it takes a while."
So far, only one new songtitle has been revealed: "The Ghost of Karilla".
Commented Brann: "I dont want to give the theme away but I think the song title will leave a few people guessing. It's top secret. I can't divulge that information. It's more fun keeping it under wraps, but you can be assured that it's definitely another MASTODON record which is going to further in a couple of different directions and the stuff we've written so far is heavier than I expected."

There's a level of difficulty to our stuff and if you're too wrapped up in trying to remember how many times something goes and the timing for the next riff, you can't examine the song for being a song. So it takes a while."
So far, only one new songtitle has been revealed: "The Ghost of Karilla".
Commented Brann: "I dont want to give the theme away but I think the song title will leave a few people guessing. It's top secret. I can't divulge that information. It's more fun keeping it under wraps, but you can be assured that it's definitely another MASTODON record which is going to further in a couple of different directions and the stuff we've written so far is heavier than I expected."
