Free Music Download-Deaf Proof
Bio:
Deaf Proof were formed in late 2006 by Pedro (d), Holger (b) and Fredo (v/g), later reinforced by Til (g). From that point of time they started jamming and working out their ideas. The result was a mix of stonerrock, metal, 70s-rock, r'n'r, psychedelic and a dash of progressive, in other words: Down-tuned and based on a diversified drum and bass groove, the fat riffs are varied by tons of cutting melodies, crying soli and twin guitar attacks, on top raw and powerful vocals. In autumn 2007 the band split up with guitar-player Til who was replaced by Phil. Quickly after that, the band had to postpone their plans because of Phil's tinnitus. In early 2008 the band decided to substitute Holger and to search for a new bassplayer. But nevertheless Deaf Proof recorded their first demo that was released in April 2008. The bass on the demo was played by Phil. Deaf Proof found the new four stringer Angus in june 2008. In december the band unfortunately had to search for a new bassplayer again and in march 2009 JP joined the gang. Together they recorded a 2-track live-demo in july. The combo is recording their first album (including 2 brandnew tracks) since autumn 2009 likely to be released in late 2011. They live-debut was in february 2010 supporting the famous Stonewall Noise Orchestra from Sweden.
This German band offers up some pretty down and dirty blues heavy rifff-oriented jams. The band is currently in the studio working on a full-length and has generously offered the readers of Heavy Planet their previous 2 demos and a live track for free download. A few pre-production demos of 2 songs off the new album can be found on their MySpace page. Enjoy!

New Band To Burn One To-Madleaf
The "New Band To Burn One To" today is Madleaf.
Bio:
MADLEAF is a four-piece band, Achilles (vocals), Nick (guitars), Dorian (bass) and Tsaga (drums).
The band first met with the previous singer Jim Lord and drummer George in an old tattoo studio and the name MADLEAF was inspired when the four of them noticed the spiral fall of the last leaf of an old tree.
They started out in 2004 in Athens - Greece and after spending few months writing and composing they hit the stage of the famous Greek live club "AN Club". "Underworld", "Mo Better", "Rodeo Club" followed. The suburbs followed as well.
The band was presented by the Greek press as an "All Star Band" because the members were part of other famous groups. The previous singer, Jim, came from the cult grunge - stoner rock group Lord 13 who always support bands like Hawkwind, Orange Goblin, Cathedral and Nebula. Drummer George came from the alternative and MTV featured band Make-Believe and Porphyria, guitarist Nick from the alternative Human Asteroid and bassist Dorian from the heavy metal outfits of Clairvoyant and Night Guest. All in one!
Even though the band was unknown at the time everybody knew the members from their other bands and was a matter of time for MADLEAF to be established as an uprising power to the greek rock scene.
With tracks like Sinners, Velvet and the groovy Into The Sun MADLEAF pledges allegiance to everyone from Alice In Chains and Soundgarden to Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots.
Many gigs followed and MADLEAF shot at the top of the rock scene in the Summer Rock Festival 2005 in Antiparos GR along with successful bands such as The Earthbound, Potergeist, Nightstalker, Rockin Bones, Planet of Zeus ect.
The cool angriness of Jim's vocals left the audience to think of Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder while the wall of sound behind him sealed the coffin!
"MADLEAF is a band dressed for success" as the Greek Metal Hammer wrote after a live show supporting, the 13 year old cult band, Nightstalker.
In autumn 2007 MADLEAF started recording their debut album called "SINNERS" that was ready in January 2008 and include 11 songs. June 2008 finds MADLEAF signing with the legendary label Poison Tree Records based in California/USA.
Today, with the debut CD as proof, MADLEAF is in complete power with all elements contributing equally, and passionately, to a sound resonating from Greece, while winning fans throughout the world.
The recent release of "SINNERS" on the Poison Tree Records label along with a series of performances and a videoclip for the title song celebrating the debut confirms MADLEAF's place among bands poised to make a national statement.
In late 2009 the band changed two of it's members, singer Jim Lord and drummer George. New singer Achilles and drummer Tsaga stepped in to merge a new heavier sound for the band. 2010 brings with it a new direction for MADLEAF and...The best is yet to come…!
Until then they are hitting the stages and getting bigger and bigger day by day planning to move ahead to the next level of their career!
When I received the info for this band I was truly expecting a Stoner Rock band, Madleaf? What would you think? Well think again. Madleaf are a Heavy Rock band from Athens, Greece. The immediate comparison would be what a heavier Pearl Jam would sound like. Madleaf combines 90's grunge with modern heavy rock sensibilities. The songs are very radio-friendly and could hear them being played on any radio station in the states. Definitely not Stoner Rock, but there are some cool hard rock riffs on some tunes. I particularly like the tunes "Feed Me" and "Into the Sun" on their MySpace page.

March Bandness: Regions and Seedings
Some of you have voiced your concern over your band's Region placement. If your band was from the USA it was placed in a region based on your geographical location. ex. Stoner Rock Region (West Region) California, Sludge Region (South Region) Texas, etc. If your band was from a foreign country, ex. Canada your band would be placed in the Psychedelic Region (North Region). The genre may or may not reflect your band's sub-genre. ex. if you are a Psychedelic band you could be placed in the Doom Region (East Region) based on the location of your band. Your band's seeding is based on how many fans your band had on Reverb Nation at the time the brackets were being decided. Also, based on seedings your band may end up matching up with a band other than your band's genre. ex. a Sludge band may match up with a Psychedelic band. I hope this clarifies the situation. Good luck to all the bands involved.

Sunday Sludge-Iron Monkey
Today's Sunday Sludge featured artist is Iron Monkey. Iron Monkey from Nottingham, UK was formed in 1994 and disbanded in 1999. The band combined crusty punk with crushing doom riffs to lay the groudwork for other bands in the genre citing influences such as Grief, Eyehategod and the almighty Black Sabbath. The band's original lineup consisted of Justin Greaves (drums, ex-Bradworthy), Johnny Morrow (vocals), Jim Rushby (guitar), Steve Watson (guitar, ex-Cerebral Fix) and Doug Dalziel (Bass, ex-Ironside).
While their intent was "to irritate as many people as possible," according to bass player Doug Dalziel. That may have worked for a while, but eventually the band had to deal with the fact that quite a few people actually liked what they were doing.
The band had a six-song EP that was originally released on Union Mill in 1995 but eventually gained the interest of Nottingham based metal heavyweight label Earache Records who reissued the album in 1996 (Rumor has it that Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo was listening to the self-titled release when he overdosed on heroin in 1996). Unfortunately before the deal mas made, original guitarist Steve Watson was fired and replaced by Dean Berry. The band released their second album "Our Problem" to critical acclaim on Earache Records in 1998. The big label exposure transformed Iron Monkey from a local force into one of two powerhouse sludge bands in the late '90s, the other being New Orleans' Eyehategod. After recording Our Problem, Iron Monkey remained fiercely independent, recording the last effort by the group, the 10" record and CD split with Japanese doom merchants Church of Misery, "We've Learned Nothing", for Melvins cover artist and stoner rock label owner Frank Kozik's Man's Ruin records.
In 1999, Jim Rushby left the band and was replaced by ex-Acrimony guitarist Stu O'Hara. Unfortunately, due to a variety of personal and industry problems ultimately lead to the band's demise in September of the same year.
Justin, Jim and Johnny formed the band Armour of God and Dean, Doug and Stu formed Dukes of Nothing. Johnny went on to form the bands My War and Murder One before eventually suffering a fatal heart attack in the summer of 2002. Justin has since played in an array of bands that include Borknagar, Silver Ginger Five, Hard To Swallow (also with Jim), Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine, British Doom titans Electric Wizard and now plays in Crippled Black Phoenix. Dean played for the underground post-doom/sludge/core group Capricorns (signed on Lee Dorrian's Rise Above Records), while Stu went on to play in Black Eye Riot. He's now playing with Acrimony members in a yet to be named stoner-groove outfit. Jim currently plays in Geriatric Unit. A live and rare tracks album entitled Ruined by Idiots was released in 2003 on Maniac Beast Records.
If you are just getting into Sludge a great place to start is with 1998's album "Our Problem" (read a review here). This album provides a bludgeoning in-your-face assault that combines undistinguishable screaming tortured vocals, Sabbath-like doom riffs along with an element of industrial noise.
