Here are today's new releases.
Landmine Marathon-"Sovereign Descent" (Prosthetic)
"2010 album from Phoenix, Arizona's Landmine Marathon. Sovereign Descent is a sonic representation of their world: scorched, desolate, and angry as hell. The album was recorded at guitarist Ryan Butler's Arcane Digital Recording Studios, where he's recorded past efforts from the band, as well as Misery Index, Phobia, The Funeral Pyre and many others. The album was mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music (Converge, Hatebreed, Dillinger Escape Plan) and features cover art by acclaimed artist Dan Seagrove (entombed, Dismember, Morbid Angel, Suffocation)."
16-"Drop Out" (Relapse)
"The beastly, throbbing riffs and tortured screams of 16's now-legendary Drop Out album sent shockwaves through the international music scene upon its '96 release. It's obvious why over a decade later; the band made visceral anguish, angst, and disillusionment sound downright anthemic. 16 put an ugly, angry face on disenfranchised youth and Drop Out became a touchstone and soundtrack for the next generation of heavy rock trail blazers and trendsetters."
16-"Curves That Kick" (Relapse)
"Curves That Kick, the long out-of-print debut album from SoCal quartet 16, threw the doors open to a new, post-Helmet/AmRep sound of discordance and discontent. Originally released on Pushead's Bacteria Sour label in '93, the album exposed the nascent beginnings of the soon-to-be infamous quartet. As Curves That Kick proved then and underscores now in its remixed and remastered form, 16 is its own unique, belligerent human animal."
Fireball Ministry-"Self-Titled" (RED)
"From the beginning, Fireball Ministry have aggressively steered clear of all manner of trends and cliques, opting instead to follow the rock n roll heart that has been the core for over a decade. Their analog-soaked, bottom-heavy swirl of tunes that tips a hat toward the best of the past without sounding like a mere retread or novelty. Famously described as Sabbath partying with Priest and Grand Funk Railroad, there's no nonsense in the Fireball camp."
Triclops!-"Helpers On The Other Side" (Alternative Tentacle)
"2010 release from the Bay Area Prog Acid Punk rockers. Adding flourishes to the formula established on their debut Out of Africa, Triclops! continues its assault on all pretenders to the Punk/Psych/Prog throne. The sound on this album is varied, but one might say it's akin to Firehose crossing streams with Goblin in an acid vat. There's even an acoustic bridge in "With SARS, I'll Ride the Wind" that sounds like a fever-warbled Classic Rock jammer. Triclops! is an Acid-Punk version of avant-garde classical composition with cinematic textures--an absurdist soundscape replete with comedic relief that acknowledges its own pure ridiculousness"

CAVALERA CONSPIRACY Taps FIREBALL MINISTRY Bassist For European Tour
CAVALERA CONSPIRACY — the new project featuring SEPULTURA founding members Max (guitar, vocals) and Igor Cavalera (drums) alongside SOULFLY guitarist Marc Rizzo — has tapped Johny Chow (a.k.a. John Mark Bechtel; FIREBALL MINISTRY, SOULS OF WE, ex-SYSTEMATIC, MY RUIN) to play bass on the group's current European tour. Joe Duplantier of the French progressive death metallers GOJIRA, who laid down all the bass tracks on CAVALERA CONSPIRACY's debut album, "Inflikted", is currently in the studio working on the new GOJIRA CD and is unable to join CAVALERA CONSPIRACY on the road.
Johny Chow played his first show with CAVALERA CONSPIRACY Friday night (May 30) at the Electric Weekend in Madrid, Spain. Photos of the concert are available at this location. Fan-filmed video footage can be viewed below.
CAVALERA CONSPIRACY will team up with THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, THROWDOWN, BURY YOUR DEAD and INCITE for a North American tour in July.
"Inflikted" sold 9,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at No. 72 on The Billboard 200 chart.
Max Cavalera was interviewed a few weeks ago by Andrew Haug of Triple J's "Full Metal Racket" (based in Australia). Download the 16-minute audio file in MP3 format at this location (6 MB).

Album Of The Day-Fireball Ministry-"The Second Great Awakening" (2003)
Love it or hate it, I have decided to make "The Second Great Awakening" by Fireball Ministry the Album Of The Day. Why, because I happen to love it.

Review:
It’s been far too long since the last time I heard an album that had no other reason to exist other than to rock. However, New York foursome Fireball Ministry (Who are collectively guitarist/vocalist Rev. James A. Rota II, bassist Janis Tanaka, guitarist Emily J. Burton and drummer John Oreshnick) are ready to turn up the volume and bring back what has been missing from our lives for a long time - a rockin’ good time!
Although Fireball Ministry are still considered something of a new act, as the title suggests The Second Great Awakening is their second full-length release after Ou Est La Rock? was released in 1999 (With their EP FMEP released in 2001 to bridge the gap).Fireball Ministry’s sound will most likely be passed off as a generalised stoner sound to most, but that’s not to say they sound generic or familiar in any way. To be more accurate in description, you should take some Black Sabbath, Fu Manchu and Black Label Society musically, and then throw in some vocals that recall Ozzy Osbourne’s days back in the German club touring days (‘Blue Suede Shoes’).
After the instrumental opening of the title track, the band hit gold with the lazy yet equally powerful riff-fest of ‘King’. The guitar structure is obviously kept uncomplicated, but there’s something about the simplicity that suits the band so well and makes them all the more intriguing. ‘The Sinner’ shows a great use of vocal forethought with Rev. James A. Rota II using everything he has to offer with plenty of variety, while ‘Master Of None’ and ‘Rollin’ On’ bring to mind Ted Nugent in his prime without actually sounding anything like him. The riffs just keep coming on in other highlights such as ‘Flatline’ (The first promotional video clip), ‘In The Mourning’, the stomping ‘He Who Kills’ and the Black Sabbath sounding pair ‘Choker’ and ‘Maidens Of Venus’ (Which originally appeared on their ‘FMEP’).
The Second Great Awakening is rocking, familiar sounding, melodic and original, which makes Fireball Ministry one of the greatest rock bands you’ve probably never heard of before (But should). (Justin Donnelly, Blistering.com)
