New Band To Burn One To (Evening Buzz): MOONS

MOONS is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ON TO"  Evening Buzz...

Bio:

Moons formed in Boston in 2010 when a bunch of metal and hardcore kids got together and started stargazing. Their debut 12" Stasis (out now, available at Bandcamp) is a crunchy, fuzzed-out space voyage, drawing inspiration from Hum, Failure, and Helmet as much as it does from Isis, Pelican, and deadbluesky. Moons will be in and out of the galaxy supporting Stasis.

"Huge plundering riffs guide your way through the stars as the rhythm section of Boston-based band Moons blasts through a force field of unchartered territory. Combining jagged crunchy guitar with atmospheric heaviness, and adding a bit of punk, listening to Moons is like gazing at the stars while getting your ass kicked! Are you ready to take the trip? Listen now!"

New Band To Burn One To (Evening Buzz): CHOKE THE PALM TREE

CHOKE THE PALM TREE is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO"  Evening Buzz...

Bio:

Choke The Palm Tree was born in Pansdorf, not far away from Luebeck, Northern Germany in spring 2010, when Fabian Kunze and Roman Riemann startet a new project which was supposed to be a stoner rock band. First there hasn’t even been either a band name, or a bass player. They startet having fun with some riffs inspired by Kyuss, Astroqueen and so on. Since they thought they didn’t need a bass, they weren’t looking for one. One day when they had a little too much of Jacky, they startet writing a list of band names they could possibly use. When they were done, they picked their name without discussing. So they kept on playing and after a few weeks they were thinking of a bass player, so their good friend Fynn Heinsen became part of Choke. After writing enough songs to play a show, they started playing concerts and had a really great resonance. Weeks later they started touring around their region, playing at bars and clubs, so they got more and more fans. Most people were amazed because their genre wasn’t that spread anymore. In one year they had a lot of concerts, wrote over 20 songs, recorded their first album called “Stone Or Rock?” (official released on May 20th 2011) and in June they’re playing at their first festival called “Valhalla Festival” in Schleswig, Northern Germany.

Their style is somewhere between stoner rock, metal, even a bit of punk. But most of it is supposed to be stoner rock and the audience also recognizes it. Now with their first album, they’re shooting 12 tracks their first self-produced cd through the galaxy and hope everyone is enjoying it!

Latest tracks by chokethepalmtree

"As the warm fuzzy guitar and heavy muddled drop-tuning makes the hair on your neck standup, Choke the Palm Tree from Northern Germany takes you on a scorching desert journey which includes sun-drenched stoner rock grooves, a bit of psychedelia, boorish vocals and an obscene amount of blazing-hot riffage. Get burnt!"

If you would like a copy of their latest album "Stone or Rock?" please contact the band here.

New Band To Burn One To (Evening Buzz): STONE IN

STONE IN is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO"  Evening Buzz...

Bio:

Stone In is held together by a common love of vintage heavies and psychedelic organisms from around the world. Armed with a doubleneck bass-guitar, tandem ride cymbals, loop pedals and two feedbacking electric amps, drummer Alberto Centurion and multi-instrumentalist Greg Valou bring you the world's first, "heavy psych power duo."

Stone In is named as an homage to Krautrock legends Guru Guru and its home is Vancouver, B.C., Canada.

"Based on their two-song Bandcamp EP, Vancouver band Stone In shows off two sides to this very talented band. One of a trippy atmospheric dirge complete with an ocean-sized wall of guitars and dreamy sequences, and the other a hard-driving funkified psychedelic freak-out with a bombastic running bass line. It shows that this band is not afraid to take chances and if done properly can put out a damn fine album. Look forward to it."

New Band To Burn One To (Evening Buzz): AWOOGA

AWOOGA is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO"  Evening Buzz...

Bio:

AWOOGA started in late 2008 jamming away in a cold little decrepit practice room in Sheffield city centre across from a 86 year old Master Steel Forger who once made knives for Bill Clinton and Elvis Presley. No lie, he showed us the photos. Our sound is heavy, melodic and atmospheric. It's a bit proggy and we have been told " you guys sound like a star exploding". Have a listen. We have played with some really good bands in the past and still do now such as Saviours, Kruger, Downslide, and many more that we have been privileged to share bills with in the past.

"This 3-piece power trio from Sheffield, UK is spacey and psychedelic but in a more celestial way. The vocals are breathy and layered which give off an unwordly feeling. The music can get rather spastic and heavy at times using crushing guitar riffing to provide a terrific compliment to the ethereal mood. Erratic rhythms, soaring guitar passages, and exploding bass lines will shall I say, leave you mezmerized."

Bio:

Five lads, playing NOLA style whiskey soaked Sludge from the Northwest.

Chris - Vocals
Dan - Guitar

"As the unnerving swirl of feedback punches at your eardrums, Liverpool band Iron Witch pulls you into their boggy depot for a liquor-soaked sludgefest. Filled with warm and fuzzy bass hum, grimey guitar riffs and a throaty hardcore bark, wrestling with alligators is common nature for these UK sludge demons. Bottle it up and give me some of that fine single malt!"

New Band To Burn One To (Evening Buzz): TUNGUSKA MAMMOTH

TUNGUSKA MAMMOTH is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO"  Evening Buzz...

Bio:

With the growing desire to play their own music not fit for their cover band, GPS, Maxime Bellerose (ex-Lacrimae Mortalium), Paolo Di Stefano and Mathieu Savage decided to get together with drummer Pierre-Hugues Rondeau (ex-Hope&Horror), to try and fill this void. After a few rehearsals jamming on Melodic Metal riffs, the sound naturally progressed towards wahat Tunguska Mammoth is now: a combination of the energy of Metal and Hardcore mixed with Stoner groove and progressive rock’s intensity. Their first EP intitled “First Chapterse”, corded in their own rehearsal studio, serves as an introduction for the band’s forthcoming concept album. Tunguska Mammoth has played its first notes and wants to be heard.

"The Earth grumbles below as this frenzied stampede of riffs known as Tunguska Mammoth rattles your very being. Underlying this Montreal-based band's seismic heaviness is the band's ability to combine intricate soloing, killer drum fills and ferocious hardcore inflected vocals. I swear that on "Mother Earth" a wailing guitar riff replicates the trumpheting of an elephant. This may be the best 14-plus minutes I have spent listening to music in a long time. Prepare to get crushed!"

New Band To Burn One To (Evening Buzz): MAL DE TESTA

MAL DE TESTA is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO"  Evening Buzz...

Bio:

Mal de Testa is a Chilean band formed in 2004 by Rodrigo Muñoz Jonathan Muñoz, Rodolfo Felipe Gonzales Narbonne (former drummer Asamblea Internacional del Fuego and Distancia). His influences lie from classic rock like Grand Funk, Black Sabbath and the MC5 to the more contemporary, among others.

The same 2004 Mal de Testa released their first EP that bears his name, of which only 50 copies were published. This material allowed them to start playing in different parts of Santiago, giving rise to a second plate containing 5 tracks; De Tripas Corazón; released by Jupiter. This allowed the band to start a job of constant gigs until 2009, when Rodolfo Gonzales leaves the group for personal reasons. The reins of Mal de Testa battery are now taken by Nicolas Gajardo and their income starts to work in creating the first full-length Quien Lleva Las Armas album contains 10 tracks with a sound linked to the simplicity and power of the band.

"Mal de Testa is a high-octane Stoner Punk/Rock band from Chile. Right out of the gates these guys emerge into a flurry of bombastic riffs, lightning fast rhythmic blasts, and irate vocals which never give up. The band keeps the pedal to the metal so to speak as the punk rock attitude intensifies with each passing song. If you like your music loud, fast and raw as hell then give Mal de Testa a listen. Their newest album is available for free on Bandcamp right now!"

New Band To Burn One To (Evening Buzz): EGGNOG

EGGNOG is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO"  Evening Buzz...

Bio:

Eggnogg is a heavy rock trio from Brooklyn, New York. Since their debut album in 2009, Eggnogg has masterfully blurred genre lines, transcending the redundant boundaries of modern rock music. Eggnogg’s effortless merging of melody, discord, psychedelic textures, and irresistible hooks defies expectation and refuses to be type casted.

The band’s unprecedented sound grows from the dynamic between its members. Drummer, Ryan Quinn’s thunderous rhythms and technical finesse are augmented by the bass and guitar work of principal songwriters, Justin Karol and Bill O’Sullivan. The two guitarists exhibit styles that are distinct, yet complementary, and their trading of guitar solos keeps the playing fresh and expansive. Atop monstrous riffs resound Bill O’Sullivan’s deep vocals, which vary from a bluesy croon, to a gut-wrenching belt. Together, Eggnogg crafts a sound that has been described as, “a mixture between Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd.”

Ever determined to push their music to new heights, Eggnogg continues to write new material. Planned for release in the fall of 2011 is a small four-song EP, and the band’s third full-length album will be out in early 2012.

"Simply put, Eggnog is brilliant! This band from Brooklyn, NY utilizes a multitude of tones and effects to create a psych-tinged ambience amongst heavy as all hell doom riffs. If you are in search of a spacey, fuzzed-out, infectious, bluesy...I could go on and on and on. Sometimes a band is so good I am at a loss for words. Here is a great review on Doommantia that truly captures the very essence of this remarkable band."

New Band To Burn One To (Evening Buzz): THOUSAND CODES

THOUSAND CODES is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO"  Evening Buzz...

Bio:

The story of THOUSAND CODES started in 2010 when three close friends from Nantes (France), each having varied musical backgrounds, made up their mind to become a band to share their passion for rock music and whose rallying point would be stoner-rock.

Soon after, they were joined by a fourth member sharing the same passion and enthusiasm.

THOUSAND CODES was born.

A few months later, the band decided to move forward and recorded its first EP A Womb For Horus" with the first four tracks they had written.

Today the band is driven by the same crave for gigs and decibels.

Created in October 2010, Thousand Codes finds its origins in the meeting of four friends and musicians from Nantes and Paris (France). After an intensive rehearsing and composition work, the band gave birth to its first EP in May 31, 2011. "A Womb For Horus" is a child with special colors, which opens to all the stoner-rock fans thanks to its power and intense melodies. Built around vocals both fantastic and provocative, the band develops a mind-blowing, sharpened and edged rock, powered by a certain groove, a perfect reunion that the band likes to name "Post-Stoner".

"Centered around the raw and explosive vocals by a man simply known as B, French band Thousand Codes serve up an exceptional tasting of what the band has to offer. Self-proclaiming their sound as post-stoner, the band befittingly combines straight forward metal grooves with 70's inspired classic rock riffage."

The band currently has their latest EP "A Womb For Horus" available for streaming and purchase on Bandcamp.

New Band To Burn One To (Evening Buzz): WARCHIEF

WARCHIEF is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO"  Evening Buzz...

Bio:

Warchief is a Finnish rock band that likes to test out what is appropriate to do in the name of the Riff and explores the many dimensions of the rock and roll universe. Jam sessions from over several months culminated in this three-day self-recording session that captures 20 minutes of the infinite song that is playing in eternal loop in the head of the Warchief. Four guys just doing their shit.

"All that these dudes from Finland want to do is jam and that is exactly what they do for a little over 20 minutes on their latest EP "For Heavy Damage". Warchief pays tribute to all of their influences well by incorporating anything from psychedelic, stoner rock, and full on heavy metal. For the most part, the music is very fluid, combining tribal drum beats, up and down tempos, and flowing guitar pieces. Although the release lacks the wailing of guitar solos usually associated with a "jam" session, Warchief does an excellent job at keeping the listener's attention to the very last abrupt note."

The band has graciously given permission for you to download the EP in its entirely at the link below or if you would like to help the band out you can purchase the EP for $5 on Bandcamp.

New Band To Burn One To (Evening Buzz): DULCINEA

DULCINEA is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Evening Buzz...

Bio:

Dulcinea is a representation of what it means to be alive and all the joy and suffering that goes along with a life consciously and fully lived. The goal is to communicate, express and heal through music.

Formed in 2006 by Mathew Thomas and Jason Ng along with drummer Rashid Said, Dulcinea is the name of a character in Miguel De Cervantes' novel Don Quixote. In the book, the central character Don ...Quixote goes in search of a woman he believes to be the most beautiful woman in the world and this search triggers a series of adventures and tribulations. In this spirit, Dulcinea sees their music as a search for something beautiful. It's a journey filled with reflection, expression and imagination.

Upon releasing their debut album "The Politics Of Fear" in 2008, Dulcinea began gigging with a full fledged line up including guitarist Paul Yong and frontman Gerard Richards. The Politics Of Fear was a theme album that dealt with fear and its negative connotations. Like most artistic endeavors, the music progressed through the next few years and the integration of various music styles began to be one cohesive sound that is more immediate.

Now, 3 years after the release of The Politics Of Fear, Dulcinea is proud to release their most cohesive work yet - "In The Shadow Of The Sun". Marking another push towards the unexplored, solidifying their career in adaptation and transformation while acting as the culmination of time spent on sonic explorations of light & dark. "In The Shadow Of The Sun" is blissfully melodic and frighteningly dense while showcasing the epic conflict between worlds of beauty and the darkest of demons.

"Dulcinea from Johor Bahru, Singapore go outside the boundaries to create a chilling and epic look at the struggles between good and evil. The tempos shift and sway amongst beautiful haunting melodies. Evil lurks as seemingly endless acoustic guitar passages and flowing guitar leads weave a somber sense of emotion. Not being too constrictive with their song structures the band even tosses in a bit of funk and straightforward rock for the purists. While more progressive rock and experimental in nature than most bands featured on HP, Dulcinea is a remarkable band that you should take heed to nonetheless."

New Band To Burn One To (Evening Buzz): SWAMP WITCH

SWAMP WITCH is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO"  Evening Buzz...

Bio:

We like heavy shit and we like drugs.

Swamp Witch, whose members come from Oakland and California’s Central Valley, have been steadily building the ranks of their burgeoning doom cult in recent months, gathering worshipers in a stream of smoke-choked live rites that recall the hedonistic frenzy of Ancient Greek mystery religions. Alongside modern doom lynchpins Corrupted, Moss, and Noothgrush, Swamp Witch tap into the warped legacy of psychedelic and progressive music, from classic groups Flower Traveling Band and King Crimson to contemporary explorers such as SubArachnoid Space. These influences fuse into a dense entanglement of trance-inducing riffs that spiral downwards before crumbling into murky, bongwater-black sludge.

"Ridiculously slow heathenistic sludge from the bowels of some clandestine swamp located in Oakland, CA., Swamp Witch decimate your ears with eerie bellowing howls, slipshod grooves, mind-numbing feedback and a daunting unholiness. Check them out!"

CRIMSON STONE is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO"  Evening Buzz...

Bio:

CRIMSON STONE is a rock band formed in 2005. Bob (Guitars & Vocals) recorded some songs at his home studio the same year and they became the first demo: SATAN IS IN LOVE WITH STONER ROCK. In 2008 they edited their first long play: “From Hell They ...Came” which had very good reviews by the media.

ROCK MARSHALS is part of our new material. Here you can find what the band is; A PURE HARD ROCK MACHINE!

"What you get when listening to Spain's Crimson Stone is clear-cut, balls out, heavy southern-tinged groove metal. Pillaging their way through a merciless onslaught of unforgiving stoner grooves, Crimson Stone play music the way it should be played, loud and heavy. Can I get an Amen?!"

New Band To Burn One To (Evening Buzz): SEVEN NINES AND TENS

SEVEN NINES AND TENS are today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO"  Evening Buzz...

Bio:

Seven Nines and Tens formed in the fall of 2008 in Vancouver British Columbia Canada by guitarist David Cotton.

Cotton aspired to put together a group that combined his love for aggressive guitar driven rock and otherworldly atmospheric sounds. Earl Heath joined the band as Drummer and Bassist and the band played countless shows in the Vancouver area including a date for Citr radio's annual "shindig" festival. A line up shift in March 2010 introduced drummer Riley Roukema to the band while Earl shifted to live bassist.

The band continued to play live and sharpen their songwriting and performance skills. The band entered the World Class factory studios in Vancouver and tracked their debut album "Habitat 67" in February 2011 with engineer Hayz Fisher. Their debut "Habitat 67" will be released internationally in September 2011. The band was nominated in the "Best Metal Band" category for the city of Vancouver at the Urban Culture Conference awards and will tour extensively throughout the remainder of 2011 into 2011.

"Imagine if you will riding through the cosmos in a shiny new rocket ship enjoying the stars and moonlight, then just as you settle into your dream sequence along comes a crazed son of a bitch who decides to t-bone you. You get pissed and a frenzy ensues. That is precisely what Vancouver band Seven Nines and Tens sound like. Amidst a flurry of tempo changes, erratic drum patterns and mesmerizing guitar technique, Seven Nines and Tens take you to a place of extreme ambience, technical precision and celestial atmospherics whilest gazing at their shoes. New Band To Burn One To (Evening Buzz): THE RAVENNA ARSENAL

THE RAVENNA ARSENAL is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO"  Evening Buzz...

Bio:

Not to be confused with The Ravenna Training & Logistics Facility, The Ravenna Arsenal is a seasoned, well-oiled war machine from the overcast lands of Northeast Ohio. Bold riffs 21,000 plus acres in size rumble and whirlwinds of magical frequencies sweep you into another dimension, far away from the objective world.

"The Ravenna Arsenal from Kent, Ohio is primarily an all-instrumental band with vocals for the most part yelled in unison. The vocals are actually my favorite aspect of the band by the way. Tantalizing guitar passages, a steady barrage of riffs, intriguing drum tempos and a somewhat mysterious aura will leave you mystified and subdued."

New Band To Burn One To (Evening Buzz): NOCTURN

NOCTURN is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO"  Evening Buzz...

Photo courtesy of Matthew Alexander Patton

Bio:

We are a three-piece rock band hailing from Belfast. We’ve been going for a few years now, but recently have started to make some noise on the local scene.

All three members are graduates from one kind of music degree or another, and all teach their native instrument as well as a variety of other things ranging from Music Technology to Harp.

We have taken a break recently to write and record our debut album (Collision), which we are currently promoting heavily through touring in Ireland. Before this break we had a few pretty high profile gigs which gave us some attention from BBC Radio Ulster, AU and ATL; we performed our interpretation of Nirvanas ‘Lithium’ at Oh Yeahs ‘Nevermind Revisited’ night, performed with LaFaro and A Plastic Rose at ‘Up in the Attics’ 80th gig celebrations, and the launch gig of our second EP ‘Out of the Blue’ was the focus of a BBC2 TV show called Magic Party, hosted by Joe Lindsay.

"Belfast heavy rockers Nocturn decimate your eardrums with their highly energetic combination of 70's inspired classic rock, modern stoner riffs and 90's grunge. Gritty balls-to-the-wall vocals, solid bluesy guitar playing and catchy melodies will leave you wondering what the hell just hit you. Listen loud!"

New Band To Burn One To (Evening Buzz):POWERED WIG MACHINE

POWERED WIG MACHINE is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO"  Evening Buzz...

Bio:

Southern Arizona’s Powered Wig Machine, (a.k.a) PWM, began crafting heavy, stoner-flavored desert rock in 2007. PWM is essentially a band of musical jokesters, using tuned-down classic-rock riffs, humorous lyrics, and killer jazz inspired percussion grooves to deliver pure American desert man rock. Their oddball name spawns from track seven on Josh Homme’s (Queens of the Stoneage) The Desert Sessions Volumes 9-10 album. And…no these guys don’t jam tunes about ladies hair pieces or the art of wig manufacturing. When you listen to their style of music, the name just seems to fit like a codpiece with leather pants ensemble.

PWM’s lineup includes lead singer/guitarist Wayne Rudell, guitarist Brian Gold, bassist Joey Rudell, and drummer Daniel 'the ranchero' Graves. These rockers are all Arizona natives and have been playing together as a group since 2001.

Musically, PWM’s style and niche come strongly from where the band lives geographically. The band lives 12 minutes from Tombstone, “the town to tough to die” AZ. We feel that our self-branded heavy western Rock n Roll captures the modern spirit of the west. It’s our fuzzed out blues riffs and hard driving rhythm that provides the soundtrack for the Arizona high desert. Music made for that burly biker on the southern desert highway or tequila drenched cowboy rocker. It’s that PWM heavy western rock n roll sound they can wear like a tattoo and raise their rock fists to.

"Arizona's Powered Wig Machine is a unique band to say the very least. The band combines spirited vocals, humorous lyrics and tasty riffs to create a one-of-a-kind sound. While the obvious description of the band would be Desert rock, after all the band is from Arizona, the band implies an unbridled jazzy rhythmic pattern which adds to their quirkiness. I guess that desert heat makes you a little crazy which is a good thing in this case. Become a Wighead today, listen now!"
