It was a sad day when Dopefight reached their demise,
going out in a cacophony of dirty sludgy stoner funk riffs that was their
trademark sound, always pounding out one more riff than could be handled. But
there is relief through a smokey haze as lead vocalist Owen Carty is involved
in a new band with Will Hart of WitchFist and Mark Buckwell from Mama Moonshine,
with the equally riff heavy, almost danceable sludge that we’ve been missing:
welcome to Chubby Thunderous Bad Kush Masters.
Perhaps not ones to take themselves with the upmost
seriousness (take a look at the bio section on their Facebook) with track names
such as ‘Chopsticks and Bad Meatballs’ and the superbly named ‘Riff Richard’
(just let that one sink in for a moment) and hell, that band name is one to
remember too, their attitude towards the music industry has to be respected and
most importantly enjoyed as the fuzzed up riffs screaming from their debut
EP Earth Hog have you thrashing and dancing in equal measures. Underneath the tongue-in-cheek side of the
band, these are some seriously talented musicians here, playing their hearts
out.
Despite having just released their debut record, the band are experienced newcomers, based in London, with a world of
possibilities at their feet. Whether they’ll decide to go for longevity as a
band, put out a few albums, tour, make a bid for number one, or just leave this
solitary offering of Earth Hog for us all to devour over for years to come,
only time will tell, but one thing is certain, Chubby Thunderous Bad Kush
Masters are here right fucking now, so live in the present, and give the guys
your attention, your sweat, and your bodies!
