Bong: Mana-Yood-Sushai
I know very little of Bong, only they have created a dimension full of soothing textures and colors in latest release Mana-Yood-Sushai. Bong is a drone / doom metal style quartet that have achieved what few droner’s have for this listener (save for Om)… they have created drone that has an appealing listen-ability. The additions of the sitar and shahi baaja bring a missing link; expanding Manna-Yood-Sushai out of drone and into hypnotizing space rock and trance inducing psychedelia. Excerpts from each of the monolithic tracks can be streamed at bandcamp. But honestly, the best thing to do is pick up a copy from Ritual Productions, find a comfy spot in solitude and fade…

Ladder Devils: Nowhere Plans
Our friends over at Brutal Panda Records (responsible for the releases of some Heavy Planet favorites The Atlas Moth, Dark Castle, and Whores) have yet again released an excellent album and its down-right LOUD. Nowhere Plans is the name of Philly native’s Ladder Devils debut. Here you will find a mix of hardened punk and noise, lots and lots of LOUD noise. The songs contain a certain catchiness, not expected when listening to the cacophony of a noise record. The vocals are shouted throughout, but the treat is found in the shared shouting, like a vocal harmony, and the moments of ethereal atmosphere, normally heard in ‘instrumetal’ groups like Pelican. All this intensity and glory in eight separate tracks does not compete the western swagger of Limited Too, by far my favorite track. Check it out below or get your copy from the Brutal Panda Records Vinyl Shop.
