Today's "New Band To Burn One To" comes to you from Limburg, Belgium
Lothorian is a three-piece Stoner/Doom/Sludge band from the lowlands of Belgium. The band started in august of 2011, with the intention of making something new and special. The sound they create is a mix of heavy, groovy riffs with a dirty sound to make it an atmospheric whole.
The guitarist (Thomas Francot) and the drummer (Jurgen Martens), go way back in playing together in numerous bands. Before they played together, Thomas played the guitar in a Metalcore and a Hardcore band. Jurgen played the drums in a Metal band. In the fall of 2010 they started a band called “Midnight Rambler.” Playing some rock-‘n’-roll. Everything went well untill the summer of 2011. There were some issues and Thomas had to leave, making place for a new guitar player. After that there were some more issues and Jurgen left the band. Now Thomas and Jurgen started playing together again, just for fun. At the same time, Thomas was playing the guitar in a Hardcore band with Jeroen Op ’t Roodt, (his first band) where he played bass. This is how Jurgen came in contact with Jeroen and the dice was rolling.
Before Lothorian, there was another project called “Natural Born Killers” a six-piece Stoner Rock band who played instrumental music. This never became a real band due to other priorities and other bands the members were playing in. So Thomas, Jeroen and Jurgen were the only ones left. Continuing playing Stoner Rock.
Lothorian was born. Playing Stoner, Doom and Sludge combined. The only thing they needed was a singer. At one of the First rehearsals, Jurgen tried to combine drumming and singing and it sounded alright. Thomas also sang and they now both share the vocal part of the songs.
They’re just finished with recording their debut album called “Welldweller” at Safehaven Recordings in January of 2012. The album contains six own songs. Mostly playing shows in their home town, Maaseik, they received good comments on their music.
"As the putrid stench fills the air and smoke billows around your head you can hear the doom-laden Stoner/Sludge metal provided by Lothorian. Thick fuzzy riffs cut through the thickening fog as your are guided into a remarkable land of superior heaviness. The repetitious groove will be embedded into your mind forever. Take heed, this is Lothorian!"(((facebook|youtube)))
