Two Birds With One Stone-New Band (and Label) To Burn One To-MICRODOT GNOME/STRANGE EARTH RECORDS

Today's edition of "New Band To Burn One To" is a little different. Today we are featuring the band Microdot Gnome as well as announcing the aforementioned band's label Strange Earth Records.

Label Press Release:

Van Conner has announced the launch of a new record label titled Strange Earth Records. Strange Earth has partnered with the American wing of Germany’s Finetunes Digital Media Services.

Van’s new venture seeks to fill a gap in the Northwest Music Scene (although he reserves the right to release non-Northwest acts as well) with the new label serving as a hub for independent bands that have dedicated their lives to making great music. The website (www.strangeearthrecords.com) will serve as a “one stop shop” for web surfers who want to find out who is lurking in the backwoods of the Pacific Northwest.

The label will feature singles, EPs and full length records and videos that can be purchased through all the major online music shops (iTunes, Amazon, eMusic, etc.).
Plans for vinyl releases and distribution are also in the works.

New music as well as tunes from Van’s vast archives of tunes that he and his friends have recorded over the years that never saw the light of day or have never been released online will be featured.

The label’s first release will be by Microdot Gnome. Microdot Gnome is the latest project by Gary Lee Conner, best known as a fellow Screaming Trees co-founder/guitar player/songwriter as well as Van’s brother:

Upcoming scheduled releases include music from:

 The Legend of Bigfoot – “The Legend of Bigfoot” EP
 VALIS – “Minds Through Space and Time” LP
 Y.B.s – “Altered Steaks” LP
 Vaporland – Online Single
 Argonaut – Online Single
 Solomon Grundy – “Stone Soup and Other Stories” LP Re-Release with Spirit of the Radio Single
 Screaming Trees

About Van Conner: A Northwest rock musician, Van founded the Screaming Trees in 1984 with his brother, Gary Lee, and longtime friends, Mark Lanegan and Mark Pickerel. After the band’s break up in 2000, Van has continued to write, produce and record music with his friends and family. His band VALIS has released four records and they are currently working on a fifth.

Bio:

After ten years of shaking the corporate rock slime from his boots, former Screaming Trees guitarist Gary Lee Conner has emerged unfazed on the other side and is ready to throttle this spooky action known as the Microdot Gnome to the ends of eternity. Now holed up on a small compound in central Texas, Gary Lee began to revisit the mind-bending rock that made him well known around the world in Screaming Trees. In addition to showing off his guitar work, Gary Lee has added mellotron, harpsichord and brass instruments create a soundscape that may at times seem reminiscent of the Screaming Trees 1996 release Dust. The Microdot Gnome first signaled their existence in 2010 with the self-released album 4D Sugarcubes, and now here on Strange Earth Records the Microdot Gnome is embarking on a journey through the light years towards a time all its own. Come on along for the ride.

Stars are born and die. Strange forms of life emerge. Time and space bend back upon themselves. In quasar-like experiments super intelligent races evolve new universes and turn their backs upon the old. In this fusion of infinite past, present and future you will come upon the MICRODOT GNOME.

Review:

"Creating a lush and beautiful landscape, former Screaming Trees guitarist Gary Lee Conner's talents awe and inspire. For example, on the track "Low Flying Bird", Gary's effortless psychedelic freakout swirls around jangly guitar patterns, a tight horn section and trippy rhythms. On the other end of the spectrum, "Julian Hades" is a mind-bending ballad invoking 60's inspired instrumentation and a free-spirited flow. Utilizing all of Gary's abilities, he performs and plays all instruments on this amazing release. If you were ever a fan of Screaming Trees, do yourself a favor and check this band out."
