The Album Of The Day is "Dead Gone" by Winnebago Deal.
Review:
If you're longing for the Sub Pop sound, before the mainstream neutered and pillaged the Seattle scene, then Winnebago Deal's debut full-length, Dead Gone, is definitely for you. Don't get them wrong though -- Winnebago Deal is nothing like all the third (now fourth?) generation Pearl Jam/Nirvana rip-offs that continue to spread like a virus. While they did absorb Sub Pop's raw sound (which is obviously attributed to their choice of producer, Jack Endino, who produced Nirvana's debut, Bleach) and style (the out-of-focus live photos inside the CD booklet) the duo specializes in hard-hitting, sometimes abrasive, hard rock. And while there are only two bandmembers, you'd never know it, as they out-muscle the majority of the rock bands you see nowadays on MTV. Keep all combustible materials away from your speakers while blasting such standouts as "The Line-Up," "Cobra," and "N.W.O." There may not be a lot of variation here -- riffs n' bashing are aplenty -- but there's a realness and rawness here that is far too often frowned upon in this Pro-Tools obsessed world.
