New Band To Burn One To: FUZZLY

HEAVY PLANET presents...FUZZLY!

 BAND BIO:

"Banda de Rock'n'roll formada em agosto de 2001 na cidade de Cuiabá - MT Brasil"

Biografia em Inglês, amigo:

"Rock'n'roll band formed in August 2001 in the city of Cuiaba - MT Brazil"

Members:
Dark Jordão - Guitar // Vocals
Rafael Arruda - Drums
Michael Ojeda - Bass

THOUGHTS:

How about a quick drag? Today's New Band To Burn One To is a three minute blaze entitled Void from Cuiaba, Brazil based trio Fuzzly. If the name isn't enough of a hint, listeners can expect a head full of fuzz within seconds of that first breath of Void. The band have been creating some excellent stoner and desert rock for some twelve years now and the static emission from this single shows no signs of Fuzzly lettin' up. Interested in another hit? The band lay it on thick with a lot of distorted bass and percussion taking up a hefty share of the mix, burying the vocals in the Void. Check it out over at bandcamp, along with a plethora of other studio and live recordings.  Check 'em out now!

Zac's "Double Dose": Golden Void / Vice Versa

Golden Void: S/T

Shame on me. Here I am again with another fine piece of art that I missed in 2012. Luckily Reg had it covered with his Top 20 list from last year. Golden Void are a soulful space rock group out of the Bay Area, California. Carrying much history between band-mates Golden Void present a well polished sound thanks to the inherent chemistry they share. While listening to their self-titled debut the surrounding vibes become airy, quite a light and pleasant feeling. This in part is due to the cosmic "guitaring" in partnership with aura building keys. The quartet will dive into the depths for bursts of blues driven intervals, held together by the solid (and heavy) bass and drum foundation. Someone studied at Sabbath University. Truly these instruments can go unnoticed, but here a close ear will appreciate the musicianship. Check out Golden Void's music video for Virtue below and order a copy from Thrill Jockey Records while hard-copies (CDs) are still available!

Vice Versa: Rehearsal Tapes (Demo)

Blazing out of the cold Russian sky's are Vice Versa and their lo-fi recorded demo that contains enough noise and feedback to induce the most mathematically inclined metal head into a serve aneurysm. Once a listener takes the time to decipher through the feedback they will find a root of classic blues. Stepping through the demo we find a melancholy lingering through the second track Stranger. This tracks lengthy run time and steady pace will give droners something to get lost in. My personal favorite track is I'm Going Away. This rhythm driven tune is played in that classic blues style and just as the title states, ...Away, the listeners will find the music and vocals seem to be emitting from some two miles away, quite buried in the mix but giving the track an authentic feel. Give the gentlemen from Moscow a few moments of your time and stream the demo at bandcamp. And hey, if you like it Vice Versa is giving it away. That's right... FREE!

Zac's "Double Dose": Tombstones / Void Moon

Tombstones: Year of the Burial

An all Scandinavian Double Dose can't be a bad thing! First up are Norway's Tombstones with their pure doom record Year of the Burial. Our compadre Toby introduced us to this leviathan back in 2010 with their release Volume II. Well, needless to say Tombstones is back and with a darker demeanor. The trio have taken their fine skills, polished them and added some solid song writing for this sophomore release. Within the first moments of listening the most noticeable sounds are the truly earth-shattering bass lines. Honestly Mr. [Ole] Helstad is emitting enough bass through these speakers to rattle the teeth from your jaw, and you being a Heavy Planet reader know this is a good thing. Vocal duties are shared between guitarist Bjørn and Ole. These vocals at times are chant-like, fogged by the immense vibrations and create an uneasy atmosphere. Other times they over-power, ablaze in fury, like being shouted down in abuse. In the end I just call it doom... and damn good doom. Get your copy from Soulseller Records!

Void Moon: On the Blackest of Nights

That's right 'Planet-heads...Scandinavia strikes again! Well, properly... Sweden does with Void Moon and their soon-to-be released On the Blackest of Nights. Void Moon are a classic doom four-piece that kneel at the altar of Sabbath and Candlemass. Void Moon crush with a steady pace of bass heavy riff-age. If you are looking for something a little more traditional to add to your playlist check out the single Hammer of Eden below and if you need a copy head you will have to wait. On the Blackest of Nights will be officially released and available November 6th courtesy of Cruz Del Sur Music.

Album Of The Day-Novadriver-"Void" (2001)

The Album Of The Day is "Void" by Novadriver.

Review:

Out of the streets of Detroit, MI comes this metallic-shining heavy psych monster, named NOVADRIVER and these four guys are playing a very tasteful mixture out of different ingredients like Blue Cheer, Stooges, MC5, Hawkwind and a bit Sabbath. But enough name-dropping ! I never heard anything of them before but this debut is an excellent surprise. Everything is performed with a passionate heaviness and far away from typical stoner rock. Heavy burning rockers like "Rocket Superstar" or "Spinning Into No Future" gave me a fine lift-off. "Void" doesn?t invent nothing new ,but it?s the way this band is working out an own profile. They are high explosive, cool and full of groove and energy. Especially these influences from the American and British 60?s Garage-Rock/Psych era is giving the massive heavy fuzz-laden Rock this special vibe. Tons of atmospheric guitar effects and the very cool vocals of Mark Miers on top of it. They know how to create emotional and catchy songs with different emotions and energetic variations and breaks.

I will not write about single songs, because here are no fillers. And that?s the debut of this young band and it?s a pretty amazing and hopeful album. "Void" is for sure packed with some trippy effects that are giving "Void" enough drive to explore the universe. The album closes with a nice heavy cover version of Aerosmith?s "Seasons Of Wither", formally released on the "Right In The Nuts" Aerosmith tribute also on Small Stone. So, I must admit that a new small star was born and I?m looking forward to new material. A highly recommandable album, that grows with every listening and you can order it directly from the fine Detroit-based label Small Stone Records and check out the homepage of NOVADRIVER (KK, CosmicLava.com)
