Song of the Day-Mathusalem-"Haunted Bong"

"Haunted Bong" is taken from the 2015 EP release "Sons of Salem. Continuing with our Halloween theme, nothing could be finer than some sinister riff worship. As the haze gradually swells, the doom beckons with tortured screams and immensely fuzzed-out riffs. Not too shabby for one-dude. Song of the Day-Vampyromorpha-"Deliver Us From The Good"

"Deliver Us From The Good" is part of a 2-song teaser of sorts recently released on Bandcamp. It appears that the band is set to release a full-length sometime soon called "Six Fiendish Tales of Doom and Horror...Vampyramorpha". This song is an occult-ish doom rock romp though the netherworld complete with the necessary blood-thirsty vocal howl, haunting vibe and one evil as hell riff. Unfortunately, there is not much else on the band at the time. If anyone knows anything else about the band, please let us know and we will post it here.

Song of the Day-The Blue Stones-"Be My Fire"

"Be My Fire" is taken off of the latest release "Black Holes". Sometimes choosing one song off an album to feature can be a daunting task, but due to my short attention span these days that's all that it will allow me. The Blue Stones are a great band and "Be My Fire" is a great song. Reminiscent of other rock duos such as Royal Blood and The Black Keys, this two-piece band has chosen somewhat of a different path. They have chosen a much warmer and fuzzier sound to go along with their escalating, exhilarating and extremely catchy brand of blues-inspired rock. This is hands down one of my favorite rock albums of the year. For more information, please check out the following links: Facebook | Bandcamp

New Band To Burn One To: Thomas Doc

Thick heavy slabs of mighty blues with stoner undertones are the order of the day as we’re lighting a massive one to Italy’s Thomas Doc. They’ve recently released their self-titled debut EP, featuring four tracks of stomping delta blues pounding through a stoner’s cloud of influence. The guitars are fuzzy and twang like a hillbillies’ G-string, the drums are devastating, and the vocals of Marco Mezzatesta both anger and soothe in varying intensities throughout.

The band only formed in 2014, but already they have become a hell of a statement on the heavy blues scene, fitting in amongst contempories such as The Heavy Eyes, Geezer, and Welcome Back Delta. Watch this space, and for now, let Thomas Doc encompass your soul.

Song of the Day-Slow Season-"Heavy"

"Heavy" is taken off of the upcoming re-release of their self-titled debut due out in December via Riding Easy Records. This tune is a total throwback to when rock and roll ruled the airwaves. Influenced heavily by great bands such as Led Zeppelin, Mountain, and Canned Heat, the song fills your ears with bombastic drumming, heavy blues riffs and vintage production. Song of the Day-Roux-"40 Degrees"

"40 Degrees" is taken of the latest 4-song EP "Void Reflections". When I first heard this song on their 2-song demo back in January, I was hoping that a full-length was on it's way. Well, unfortunately that wasn't the case. The band basically went in polished up the sound and added a few more songs. Regardless, this is an amazing song. The song is an airy hook-laden wall of sound with a stoner vibe, a tremendous raspy vocal, and a nod to nineties alternative metal. Song of the Day-Fuel Eater-"Deep Knowledge"

"Deep Knowledge" is taken off of the recently released full-length album "Centralia". If you like heavy foot-stomping stoner metal with goddamn electric riffs and a whiskey-fed vocal style, then look no further. With a southern flare and righteous melody the song creeps into your skull and rocks your bones. For more information, please check out the following links: Facebook | Bandcamp

Song of the Day-The Strayin' Sparrows-"Skyship"

"Skyship" is taken off of the latest full-length release of the same name. A bluesy riff sets the pace for this spaced-out garage rock nugget. With hints of psychedelia and effects-laden vocals you are sent floating into oblivion, then at the 2:27 mark you are thrust full-force into another galaxy only to be returned once again to your comfort zone. Pretty remarkable track to say the very least. For more information, please check out the following links: Facebook | Bandcamp

Song of the Day-Mass Driver-"Boss Fight"

"Boss Fight" is taken off of the band's latest release "Mass Driver 2". This band from Tennessee definitely has a penchant for the cool Cali stoner rock sound. Plenty off fuzz, a sweet laid back vibe, and a fuck it all punk attitude. As the band says, "stop worrying about being hip or trendy, ditch the makeup and silly costumes, and just fucking jam!" Get out your boards and ride! For more information, please check out the following links: Facebook | Bandcamp

Quick Hit-Vug-Doom Rock From Berlin, Germany

Vug is a 4-piece band that hails from Berlin, Germany. The band has recently released a four song demo on Bandcamp at a name your price. This demo did exactly what it intended to do and that is to plant the seed. Everything else will work itself out in due time as the band continues to grow. The mix is rough, the sound is raw and the musicianship a bit sloppy at times, but who cares, the band is having fun and they just need a little polishing. What they do bring to the table now is a bounty of fresh seventies infested doom rock. The songs have groove, melody and pizzazz. Favorite track: Loose. Give these fellas a listen with an open ear. For more information, please check out the following links: Facebook | Bandcamp

Song of the Day-The Curse of Wendigo-"The Feathered Head"

"The Feathered Head" is a newly released song from Ukrainian band The Curse of Wendigo. Interesting and complex blend of heavy psychedelic stoner rock. Ever-changing time signatures and dynamics outweigh the disgruntled and grimy vocal. The sound is very cold, dark and meandering with plenty of changes to keep your interest. Song of the Day-Heritage-"The Wrong Side of Hell"

"The Wrong Side of Hell" is taken off of the band's latest full-length release "Law". Amazing, powerful and chugging stoner rock riffs with an eighties power metal mentality and a little sleaze thrown in for good measure. Not something you would expect, but the band pulls it off with tremendous precision and skill. I love the gritty and aggressive vocal delivery, Imagine Bang Tango, Savatage and Orange Goblin meeting up in a dark alley for a raging fist fight. LP Review: The Magic Low Transmitter by Far Away Town

After a series of Eps, Austrian three-piece Far Away Town have laid bare all of their rawest offerings on their debut full length record The Magic Low Transmitter, and it’s just what the desert stoner fuzz rock aficionado in you wants to hear. Lots of thick heavy distorted riffs, repeatedly pounding your gut into the sandy Palm Springs future.

Guitarist and vocalist Alex starts things gutturally with album opener ‘Baroon’ stomping it’s riff laden foot print all over your worn-out back. The track builds and crashes with aplomb intertwined with softer and sharper vocals echoing ghost-like across the fuzzed out riffs. The band adopt a fuzz sound which does not overpower the rest of the band, but instead works at a naturally aggressive edge which allows the drums to pulverise on their own standing, and the vocals to blend into the band’s sound as opposed to be lost within. This is stoner fuzz that will dominate when played live!

As the record progresses through the powerful ‘Commander (Max P.)’, the quite beautifully heavy layered instrumental ‘Come On, Come On’, and, well, every other track of distorted bass-laden riffage, the Austrians become a powerful figurehead in the stoner world, with an intent to completely wear your headbanging skills out, combining riff with riff, overlaying heavier fuzzy sounds, and once again, the riffs. Far Away Town have created an awesome record for lovers of everything heavy, it’s no wonder that these guys have toured with Brant Bjork and Truckfighters in the past. Go check this out now!

Song of the Day-Mondo Bizarro-"Mad"

"Mad" is taken off of the latest release titled "Mondo Bizarro". Can you hear it coming?...can you hear it?...ah yeah, there it is, that warm and fuzzy stoner rock groove. After the rumbling drums and sweet ass riff, the song buckles you in and prepares you for one hell of a ride. Desert, sun and full speed ahead! Song of the Day-Seamount-"Nitro Jesus"

"Nitro Jesus" is taken from the band's fifth full-length release "V-Nitro Jesus". The band has been delivering some of the finest classic doom riffs since 2007. On this song they once again display their undeniable force that features ear-grabbing riffs, a vintage guitar tone and tight as hell rhythm section. Ride that symbol into hell's fiery oblivion. Song of the Day-Borum- "Cerberus"

"Cerberus" is taken from the band's 3-song EP of the same name. Underneath the heavy crunch lies a beast ready to pounce. The doomy riffs are as angry as a pack of dogs and the groove digs in with a ferocious bite. For more information, please check out the following links: Facebook | Bandcamp

Song of the Day-Black West-"Betrayer"

"Betrayer" is taken off of the band's latest release "49/14: The Last Dream". The song immediately hits you square in the face with a solid punch of ripping sludge-riddled mayhem, it then does a 180 into some very melodic and well-executed progressive dynamics. The vocal really shines throughout the song, a clean and aggressive style that compliments the music very well. It is a sound that lies somewhere between System of a Down and Pantera. Song of the Day-Kroh-"Living Water"

"Living Water" is a new single/video from British female fronted doom band Kroh. Back in May we were given a little taste of what's to come in the way of the two-song release "Precious Bones". Now, we are once again teased by the delicate and passionate doom-laden outpooring of "Living Water". There is so much skull-rattling fuzz that I am still trembling. Hope to hear of a full-length from this band very soon. For more information, please check out the following links: Facebook | Bandcamp

Song of the Day-Electric Magma-"Multiball"

"Multiball" is taken from the new release "Silverball". The band has been kickin' around some pretty tasty jams for the better part of the last ten plus years or so and on this new song have proved that they are stronger than ever. Full-tilt boogie blues with a stoner rock mentality emphasizing fuzzy guitars and heavy riffs is always a win-win situation in my book. As the band says, grab a beer and crank it up! Song of the Day-Dirty Streets-"White Horse"

"White Horse" is taken off of the upcoming album of the same name due out November 27, 2015 on Alive Naturalsound. The song premiered on Pure Volume a few days ago and from the sounds of this first single, the album will be well worth the wait. Who says rock is dead? You just have to know where to look and that place just happens to be the streets of Memphis, Tennessee. After a two-year layoff the band has elaborated on their signature sound which features smokin' hot guitar riffs, a mighty soulful groove and a hypnotic midnight moan. New Band To Burn One To: SWAMP

There are some badass menacing grooves lurking their way out of Budapest, Hungary, in the form of five-piece stoner sludge metal behemoth SWAMP. With their debut EP tow, these guys are ready to smash you straight in the teeth with their combination of sludge-like grooves of guitar licks, vocals that range from passionate stoner to the darkest depths of hell growls, trudging guitar riffs charging the song along its barb wired story, but ultimately really good songs that pack a punch.

For fans of everything heavy, stoner, sludge, riffs, and well thought out song writing, SWAMP are one for you to roll a fat one to, sit back, and contemplate your next move.
