More info about NADJA and When I See the Sun Always Shines on TV:
NADJA — a duo from Toronto, Ontario featuring Aidan Baker and Leah Buckareff — creates what is often described as “ambient doom.” NADJA’s music combines elements of metal, shoegaze, ambient, post-rock , experimental, and neo-classical. Their new album, When I See The Sun Always Shines On TV, features eights covers of some of Baker and Buckareff’s favorite bands. ”Consider this album an exploration of the roots of NADJA,” says Baker. ”Everyone compares us to MY BLOODY VALENTINE, so we had to cover them; CODEINE and SWANS were both bands exploring the heaviness of metal without actually being metal; THE CURE has that lovely, bittersweet gloominess; ELLIOTT SMITH`s `Needle in the Hay` is simultaneously so simple and so devastating; no one believed us when we said we covered a song from THE KIDS IN THE HALL movie, a staple of our live set, so we had to get that one to tape; how could we resist the opportunity to cover A-HA`s heaviest (but oh so catchy) tune? And SLAYER is just SLAYER. In an effort to illustrate our motivations behind this album, we asked our friend Mathew Smith to create a series of children`s-storybook-like drawings to go with each song.”
NADJA is:
Aidan Baker (guitars, vocals, drums, etc.)
Leah Buckareff (bass, vocals)

Nadja is a duo of Aidan Baker (guitars/vocals/piano/woodwinds/drums) and Leah Buckareff (bass/vocals) currently based in Toronto, Canada. Nadja originally began in 2003 as a solo project for Baker to explore the heavier/noisier side of his experimental/ambient guitar-based music. In 2005 Buckareff joined in order to make the project more than just a studio endeavour and allow Nadja to perform live.
Nadja creates music that has been variously described as drone metal, ambient doom, and shoegazer, incorporating influences from such diverse artists as Swans, Godflesh, My Bloody Valentine, and B>Codeine. Nadja combines soundscapes, electronics, and atmospheric vocals with snail-crawl, epic riffs and dirge-like percussion, tempering the cacophany with a certain ethereal melodicism such that the listener is enveloped in a sublimating wall of amorphous sound.
After several limited edition cdr releases, Nadja released their first official album, Truth Becomes Death, on Montreal`s Alien8 Recordings in 2005. They have since released material on Conspiracy Records, Profound Lore Records, and Archive Records, and have material out via The End Records and Crucial Blast Records.

NADJA: Canadian Festival Dates Announced
NADJA has announced the following festival dates for this spring in Canada:
May 04 - Over the Top Festival/Wavelength - Toronto, Ontario
May 17 - FIMAV - Victoriaville, Quebec
May 23 - Obey Convention II Festival- Halifax, Nova Scotia
The experimental/noise duo recently released the album "Skin Turns to Glass" via The End Records. You can hear an excerpt of the song "Sandskin" at The End Records' official MySpace page.
The band — Aidan Baker (guitars, vocals, woodwinds, drum machines) and Leah Buckareff (bass, vocals) — entered Baker's home studio this January to re-record (and re-arrange as needed) the album, originally released in a limited edition CD-R run on Belgium's Nothingness Records.
About the re-recording, Baker said, "We tried for a bit of a rawer, rougher production so that tracks have a bit more of a live, unpolished feel. There is still lots of layering, as on our other records, but the sound is not quite as soft and fuzzy as some of our other releases. We maxed out the CD again with an ambient bonus track that will probably try people's patience...but the ending of that track might be a bit of a surprise..."
