A track-by-track review of "The Devil You Know", the debut album from HEAVEN & HELL — the band featuring BLACK SABBATH members Tony Iommi (guitar), Ronnie James Dio (vocals), Geezer Butler (bass) and Vinny Appice (drums) — is available at MetalHammer.co.uk.

"The Devil You Know", featuring 10 soon-to-be-classic tracks from the Dio-fronted version of BLACK SABBATH, arrives in North America on April 28 from Rhino for a suggested list price of $18.98 (physical) and $9.99 (digital). It will also be made available as a limited-edition CD+DVD featuring band interviews and rehearsal footage. More information will be made available soon.

Roadrunner Records last week announced the signing of HEAVEN & HELL for the territories of Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South America.

HEAVEN & HELL's new single, "Bible Black", is available for streaming in its entirety below. The track begins with Tony Iommi on acoustic guitar behind Dio's plaintive wail before the rhythm shifts to a menacing stomp for the rest of this dark tale about a book of sinister scriptures. One of the first songs written for the album, Dio says it established a tone for the rest of the LP. "When you start off with a blockbuster like that, it makes the rest of the album so much easier because it gives you a benchmark to measure the other songs against."

"The Devil You Know" track listing:

01. Atom And Evil

"The Devil You Know" is scheduled for release on April 28 via Rhino. The LP was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales, U.K. where the 1992 SABBATH album "Dehumanizer" was also tracked.

"Everyone had so much fun playing together that we didn't want it to end," says the group. "We started writing together and the songs started flowing like we never stopped. We wound up writing and recording an album that stands up to anything we've ever done. We're really proud of the music and excited for people to hear it."

"Each of us submitted a CD of our ideas, and we narrowed it down from there," Iommi told Classic Rock. "In some ways it was like picking up where we'd left off with 'Dehumanizer'."

In a recent interview with Revolver magazine, Ronnie James Dio described the material on the HEAVEN AND HELL album as "a real cross-section of everything we've done, from 'Heaven and Hell' through 'Mob Rules' and 'Dehumanizer'. I think there's a lot of 'Dehumanizer' in it, but a lot of other things, too, a real good blend of what this band has represented."

HEAVEN AND HELL will premier "The Devil You Know" on the April 29 edition of the nationally syndicated radio show "Rockline" with host Bob Coburn at 8:30 p.m. PT / 11:30 p.m. ET. An encore presentation of the show will air on May 4. Fans are encouraged to speak with HEAVEN AND HELL by calling 1-800-344-ROCK (7625).

The group's first LP since SABBATH's "Dehumanizer" (1992) is being recorded at Rockfield studios in Wales, U.K. (where "Dehumanizer" was also tracked). Ronnie James Dio, who co-wrote the self-produced album with Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler during sessions in Los Angeles and England, told Revolver magazine that the CD "sounds great. It's a real cross-section of everything we've done, from 'Heaven and Hell' through 'Mob Rules' and 'Dehumanizer'. More than two years ago, Dio, Iommi, Butler and Appice reunited to record a trio of new songs for Rhino's "Black Sabbath: The Dio Years" before launching a highly anticipated and greatly acclaimed world tour under their new moniker HEAVEN AND HELL. Revitalized by the reunion, the lineup is back in the studio now recording the first-ever full-length studio album from HEAVEN AND HELL. To whet the fans' appetites for the new album, HEAVEN AND HELL returned to the road this past summer for a short stint on the Metal Masters Tour, a month-long North American trek with JUDAS PRIEST, MOTÖRHEAD, and TESTAMENT.

Regarding the band's decision to continue to operate as HEAVEN AND HELL rather than BLACK SABBATH, Iommi told Billboard.com earlier this year, "It really is BLACK SABBATH, whatever we do. We just choose to go out as HEAVEN AND HELL so everyone knows what they're getting [and] so people won't expect to hear 'Iron Man' and all those songs. We've done them for so many years, it's nice to do just all the stuff with did with Ronnie again."

HEAVEN AND HELL Completes Basic Tracks For New Album

HEAVEN AND HELL — the band featuring BLACK SABBATH members Ronnie James Dio (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass) and Vinny Appice (drums) — has finished laying down the basic tracks for its new CD for an early 2009 release via Rhino Records. "It has been a pleasurable experience writing and recording with Ronnie, Tony and Vinny," Butler writes on his web site. "We hope to have the album finished, mixed and ready to go in the next couple of months."

The group's first LP since SABBATH's "Dehumanizer" (1992) is being recorded at Rockfield studios in Wales, England (where "Dehumanizer" was also tracked). According to Butler, he is going to be filming some sort of "making-of" documentary, although it is unclear if that footage will appear on the disc, or as a DVD extra.

HEAVEN AND HELL Drummer Discusses New Setlist, Songwriting Process For New Album

Marko Syrjälä of Metal-Rules.com recently conducted an interview with drummer Vinny Appice (BLACK SABBATH, DIO, HEAVEN AND HELL, DERRINGER). An excerpt from the chat follows:

Metal-Rules.com: At the beginning of the last tour you were playing for about two hours, but as the tour progressed you dropped a couple of songs cutting the set down somewhat. What was the reason for that?

Vinny: Yeah, we started with a long set and then we just cut it because at a couple of shows we had to play less time and then we pulled the songs out and everybody went, "Let's just play that." But then that got longer because we started jamming, so what went from... we played for two hours, down to an hour and forty-five minutes, then it went back up to almost two hours, because on "Heaven And Hell" we started jamming shit, which was good because we were enjoying it so much. We just started jamming and improvising, so that's a good thing.

Metal-Rules.com: Can you tell us what stage the new HEAVEN AND HELL studio album is at right now?

Vinny: Right now we have six songs... about six songs written. They're just demos and they sound fucking awesome! Heavy, great... sounds like really cool SABBATH!

Metal-Rules.com: These six new songs that you've got at this point, how would you compare them to the three new tracks ("The Devil Cried", "Shadow of the Wind" and "Ear in the Wall") that were recorded for the BLACK SABBATH ("The Dio Years") compilation that brought about this whole reunion in the first place?

Vinny: Well, the [new stuff on the] compilation was just written by Tony [Iommi] and Ronnie [James Dio]... and it was done quickly, the first time they got together. We now have a whole tour of playing together behind us, so now we got together and Tony and Ronnie wrote a lot of stuff and then there's a lot of stuff with Geezer. Then we got together... we haven't played together, they write it on the computer and then I put drums on it. So, it's a lot more relaxed since we've played together so long, it's a lot tighter and a lot more focused.

Metal-Rules.com: That sounds very promising. So, this time around all of the members are participating in the writing process?

Vinny: Yeah... it seems to work best if Tony and Ronnie sit there and start the things and then... sometimes [together] with Geezer too or sometimes Geezer will come in and put his thing in there [later], you know. But mainly the two or three of them [write the material]. And then we'll get together in a room when we've got a couple more songs and play them and then we'll go in the studio and record them.

BLACK SABBATH/HEAVEN AND HELL Signing Session At Vintage Vinyl; Photos Available

BLACK SABBATH/HEAVEN AND HELL members Ronnie James Dio (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass) and Vinny Appice (drums) signed copies of "Black Sabbath: The Rules Of Hell" earlier today (Saturday, August 2) at Vintage Vinyl in Ford, New Jersey. Check out photos at the Brooklyn Rocks music blog and photo journal.

Commented Mike of Brooklyn Rocks: "The signing was scheduled from 3 to 4 p.m. and I got to the store around 2:30 p.m. The line wasn't too bad and it took about 90 minutes to meet the band and get my stuff signed. This was night-and-day difference from the Ozzy/SABBATH signing at Virgin in Times Square in the late '90s where I stood in line for three hours and gave up after the line moved about 10 feet during that time.

"HEAVEN AND HELL seemed really cool and sociable. There were a few people who got quick pictures with Ronnie and, as I was leaving, one woman was having her baby's shirt signed."

TONY IOMMI Says HEAVEN AND HELL Has Written 'About Six Or Seven New Songs'

Gary Graff of Billboard.com reports that HEAVEN AND HELL — featuring Ronnie James Dio (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass) and Vinny Appice (drums) — has started work on a new album, the group's first since "Dehumanizer" in 1992.

In the wake of a new box set of BLACK SABBATH's Dio years, "The Rules of Hell", guitarist Tony Iommi tells Billboard.com that he, Dio and bassist Geezer Butler have already convened in Los Angeles to begin writing material for the project.

"We've got about six or seven new songs," Iommi reports, "and then we stopped to do this (Metal Masters) tour. When we finish that, we'll take a couple of weeks off, then carry on writing."

The guitarist adds that he's "really pleased" with what the group has come up with so far, describing the material as "really good, pretty powerful."

It should be noted, however, that this information has not yet been corrobated by an official source and should be considered a rumor only at this point.

HEAVEN AND HELL is currently writing material for a full-length studio album, tentatively due late 2008/early 2009 via an as-yet-undisclosed record label.

HEAVEN AND HELL played the final show of its U.S. tour with ALICE COOPER and QUEENSRŸCHE on October 6, 2007 at the Verizon Wireless in Irvine, California. Before the encore, Indie 103.1's Full Metal Jackie presented the band with gold plaques on stage to honor U.S. sales in excess of 25,000 copies of the group's "Live at Radio City Music Hall" DVD. Vocalist Ronnie James Dio thanked the fans for their support, then dedicated the encore song ("Neon Knights") to veteran KNAC DJ Tawn Mastrey, who died in early October of liver failure brought on by hepatitis C.

JUDAS PRIEST's upcoming tour will include shows where the group's entire upcoming "Nostradamus" album (based on the legendary 16th century prophet Nostradamus) will be performed as well as concerts featuring the band's classic songs.

MOTÖRHEAD entered the studio in January to begin recording the follow-up to 2006's "Kiss of Death". A late spring/early summer release is expected.

"Kiss of Death" entered the national album charts in the following countries: Germany: #4, Norway: #9, Sweden: #13, Austria: #20, Switzerland: #26, U.K.: #45, Denmark: #53. The CD was recorded at the Paramount studios in Los Angeles with Cameron Webb, who also worked with the group on 2004's "Inferno". The album includes guest appearances by POISON guitarist C.C. Deville and ALICE IN CHAINS bassist Mike Inez.
