Heavy Planet Radio Now On MixCloud

Heavy Planet Radio has been on Facebook for a little over a year now gaining over 1000 "likes" along the way, primarily posting tunes by way of Bandcamp and YouTube links. While not your typical "radio" station we, or shall I say our main "DJ" Stump spins the tunes basically playing anything that he feels like playing. Heavy Planet Radio is a great way for fans to hear new music and for bands to get their music heard. We get a shit ton of music sent into the Heavy Planet office on a weekly basis and feel bad that we are not able to feature many of the bands on our main site. Therefore I have decided to launch a Heavy Planet Radio station on MixCloud. Through MixCloud we will feature New Music playlists, staff writer playlists, the possibilities are endless. The MixCloud app is also available for iPhone and Android so you can listen to Heavy Planet Radio anywhere you go. People always complain that radio sucks and while not your typical "radio" station, we hope that you will tune in and listen.

To start things off, I have created a playlist of 25 new bands for you to check out. Over the coarse of the next few weeks we will be adding playlists of some of the staff from Heavy Planet to give you a taste of what we all listen to.

Thursday Playlist of Doom V1

This week I decided to start something new. Each Thursday, I will provide a new playlist featuring a variety of Doom bands. Stoner, Sludge, Classic, Drone, you name it we will play it. I also invite you to join our evolving playlist on Facebook known as HEAVY PLANET RADIO. Now engulf yourself in smoke and become one with the riff.

The Heavy Planet Experience

Hi! For many of you this may be the first time visiting Heavy Planet, for others, visiting Heavy Planet may be a daily ritual. Either way we want to make sure that you enjoy the entire Heavy Planet Experience. Since 2008, Heavy Planet has been somewhat of a launching pad for some of the best independent and unsigned bands from around the world. Bands have been seen worldwide on such features as "New Band To Burn One To", "Seth's Sunday Sludge", "Zac's Double Dose" and the newly formed "Nuclear Dog's Atomic Split". These fine features plus album reviews, interviews, etc. are archived for your your convenience and can be found using the drop down box on the upper left-hand side of the page.

Recently, we have created a Facebook page of an ongoing playlist of both new and old music simply known as Heavy Planet Radio. This a great place to find and listen to new bands or classic bands you may have never heard of or many of the popular bands you are familiar with. If you like to discover new music I highly suggest "tuning in". A new show called "Smoke Out Sundays" is broadcast every Sunday morning and features seven amazing new bands each week and is hosted by yours truly.

We are very passionate about what we do here at Heavy Planet and we hope you enjoy what we do. We will continue to strive to make this one of the best places to find Stoner Rock, Doom, Sludge, and Psychedelic bands on the Planet. Stay tuned...

Heavy Planet Updates

Hi all! I just wanted to give everyone an update on what has been going on around Heavy Planet as of late. Our main goal is to give as many bands exposure to as many people as possible and to expose fans to as much music as possible. One way we are trying to achieve that is through our Facebook page. Each day we will feature as much cool music as we can, this can include Bandcamp links, YouTube videos, exclusive streams, etc. To maximize daily exposure for our "New Band To Burn One To" or our CD reviews, we like to give the band or album featured a full day of exposure on the main page. Facebook is a great way for us to feature much more music whether it be new or classic. So "like" us today to hear something new or something you may not have heard in a while.

Back on Sunday October 16th the innagural Heavy Planet podcast premiered on Grip of Delusion Radio. The podcast will be monthly and will be available to download 24-48 hours after airing. Next podcast will feature some new, classic and obscure Sludge bands with Seth handling "DJ" honors. It will air on Sunday November 20th from 4-6 pm EST.

Heavy Planet has also opened up a new merchandise store. The artwork was designed by my wife. Get yourself some new threads and help support Heavy Planet while your at it. We are currently looking into a European version of the store as well for our international readers.

Heavy Planet on Facebook!

Well, I never thought I would do this, but I broke down and finally did it. Heavy Planet is now on Facebook.
In my attempt to provide as much Stoner Rock/Doom/Sludge, etc. as possible, I will be posting a ton more bands to Heavy Planet as well as Facebook. If I hear a new band that catches my ear I will probably just post it to Facebook. Any band that sends me their stuff will appear on the "New Band To Burn One To" feature. I don't want you to feel like you will be getting ripped off. Also, right now there is at least a month waiting list to getting posted so just be patient we will get to your band (special thanks to Bill from The Soda Shop for helping out with this feature). You may see multiple "New Band To Burn One To" postings on any given day as Bill will be doing some as will I.  Once again, if anyone is interested in doing CD reviews don't hestitate to send me an e-mail. You will not be compensated, but you will receive promos and/or digital links for reviewing purposes. Yep, believe it or not, I am for the most part a one man operation with the occasional help from Bill. So, I really would appreciate whatever help you could give me. Thank you!
