QUICK HIT: Kitchen Witch - "Kitchen Witch"

You're just standing there, innocently, expectantly, hoping to engage with the new discovery when Georgie and Simon begin a bisensual assault of straight stinging jabs to your ears......they use their instruments of choice, of course, vocals for Georgie, and bass guitar for Simon. The assault is powerful, coordinated, measured, and.......delightful! Soon enough the rest of Kitchen Witch join in, Conor on guitar and John on drums, and the odyssey has begun, a colorful trip of brilliance and ecstasy.

The bluesy rock sound of Kitchen Witch will quickly bludgeon any impending designs on productivity you may have had, snaking it's electrified tendrils in and around the primal center of your musical DNA before tightening it's amplified grip, supplanting any sense of awareness for an overabundant experience of joy and euphoria. Yeah. It's that powerful. So, lie back, let go, lick your lips, and luxuriate in the lush experience of Kitchen Witch's superior sound.

Album Review: Frozen Planet….1969 - Electric Smokehouse

The new album Electric Smokehouse from Sydney, Australia's own Frozen Planet….1969 is fully instrumental, completely improvised and full on intergalactic.  Seriously, like nothing I have ever experienced before outside of a certain psychotropic.  Just an insane carnival ride through multiple dimensions that you don't want to end or you do want it to end or your not sure if it is ever going to end and you are going to be stuck like this forever.  One way or the other your life will never be what it was when it's done.

The band is comprised of Paul Attard tripping out on guitar, Lachlan Paine bringing the heavy low end fuzz on bass and Frank Attard pulling it all together on drums.  Their songwriting style is to not write songs, why bother?  They just jam.  Man, they fucking jam.

I just listened to the album for the third time in a row and am sitting here in silence.  Heart palpitating, a little short of breath and not sure what to do next.  There is nothing to follow this album up with except maybe a cigarette and some quiet time.  I feel exhilarated and exhausted at the same time.

Electric Smokehouse will be released on January 11th through Pepper Shaker Records.  Of course there will also be vinyl (in black or transparent purple).

You have to check this one out, you just may look at life a little bit differently after you do.

Song of the Day-Blacksmith-"Smoke Wizard"

"Smoke Wizard" is taken off of the band's self-titled debut release. This song is the perfect lead track to an album filled awesome 70's inspired classic metal meets 80's power metal. Throw in some NWOBHM, high-octave vocals, sing along choruses and a bevy of red hot guitar soloing and you have one hell of a debut. Very promising. Song of the Day-The Black Guild-"Figure It Out"

"Figure It Out" is taken off of the band's self-titled full-length debut release. This song oozes with elements of classic hard rock, southern rock swagger and a blues appeal. Add to that a gritty, rough around the edges vocal and a pedal to the metal hammond organ grind and you have one hell of a good thing going. This is just some damn good time, beer chuggin' rock n' roll. For more information, please check out the following links: Facebook | Bandcamp

New Band To Burn One To: Never

Australian five-piece Never have delivered a swift kick to the bollocks with their demo EP. Three tracks of huge riffs, growling vocals, and heavy as hell percussion that smack you into next week. You listen to tracks like ‘Serpent Woman’ and ‘Trampled Like A Goat’ and can see the five Melbourne guys in a sweaty, dingy, badly lit bar, sweating the beer through their hair, ripping you a new one as your neck snaps from over use. This is pure rock and roll, and we love it! Get it at their Bandcamp.

Song of the Day-Field-"The Hate"

"The Hate" is taken off of the band's 3-song EP of the same name. Doom-laden riffs, chest-collapsing heaviness and a drowsy lethargic pace, oh and did I mention riffs? For more information, please check out the following links: Facebook | Bandcamp

Song of the Day-The Neptune Power Federation-"Mind Voyager"

"Mind Voyager" is taken off of the upcoming release "Lucifer's Universe" due out November 13, 2015 on Erotic Volcano Records. It has been three long years since we last heard from the band and from the sounds of it the band has gone through some changes mainly the addition of vocalist Loz Sutch. The music has matured going from eighties satanic party metal to epic seventies-driven heavy occult rock. This song is an ambitious mind fuck divided into three "suites". Fire one up as you thrust into a demonic cosmic world filled with fuzzed-out riffs, mind-bending solos and a vocal that demands your attention. MIND VOYAGER!!! LP Review - The Vast Electric Dark by Witchskull

Earlier this year, back in May, we told you about a band from Canberra, Australia, releasing a teaser for their forthcoming debut record through a Quick Hit. We were excited for what Witchskull had to offer, and after finally getting to hear their debut album, we have to applaud the Aussies for exceeding all of our expectations: The Vast Electric Dark is stunning!

The record opens with the same two tracks featured on the beginning of their teaser record (‘The Vast Electric Dark’ and ‘Temple of Ly’s’) showing exactly what this band is about; short groove-laden doom carved along a classic rock mould with an ear for a riff or two. The trio play tight, blues undertoned rock that ticks all of the right boxes. One of the main things that will make this band stand above others is with the refreshing clean vocals of Marcus De Pasquale. If you take a track such as ‘Raise The Dead’, where normally darkened despair masquerades the vocals to give the song its doom edge, Witchskull simply crank up the bass and down tune the guitars, so that Marcus’ vocals can be the shining light, the thing that highlights the darkness in the song. Hell, you can take your pick out of any of the songs here and come out with the same results, it makes for an exciting listen through the all too short record.

‘World’s Away’ is a frenetic juggernaut of riffs with vocals that can barely contain their passion, ‘Harvest Of The Druid’ is the song Ronnie James Dio is currently wishing he made on the other side of the grave, and ‘Cassandra’s Curse’ is a balls-to-the-wall classic blues doom rock assault on the senses.

The Vast Electric Dark, when all is said and done, a truly awesome record, faultless throughout, and destined to make many end of year lists very soon!
