I was recently submitted a CD by a band called Sardonis and was asked if I could review the CD on my blog. I do not typically write reviews, I leave that to the pros, because frankly my writing sucks. Anyways, I figured I'd give it a shot. Here goes:
Who is Sardonis you ask? Sardonis is a crushingly heavy 2-piece (yes, you read that right) doom metal band from Belgium. They have just recently released their first EP and are currently working on their full-length CD to be released on Electric-Earth Records. Current band members include R on guitar and J on drums.
Upon listening to the first few notes the influences are apparent. Throw in a little Sabbath, Eyehategod, St. Vitus and some Venom-like thrash for a truly remarkable concoction. It is truly hard to believe that this band is only a 2-piece. The songs are well-structured and keep the listener interested with tempo changes thrown in at the most precise moments. The guitar grooves are intense and very, very heavy. I failed to mention that Sardonis is also lacking a vocalist, which is alright because the music speaks for itself. I must say that I am truly stoked about hearing a full-length album from these guys in the fall of 2009, it is unfortunate that it couldn't be sooner.
The band has released 50 white (as of this writing white have sold-out) and 500 black vinyl of their EP for purchase.
