New Band To Burn One To: Cromlech

HEAVY PLANET PRESENTS...CROMLECH

BAND BIO:

Slow, loud music from Middlesbrough UK. For fans of large structures.

THOUGHTS:

Cromlech, from the UK, come with a 2 track demo of stripped down and low down doom metal. Like a massive be-denimed and leathered sloth, dragging it's knuckles and swollen belly and shaking the ground as it hulks onward, the 2 tracks on here lurch with huge gritty riffs, devastating drum avalanches and Jus Oborn style guitar + wha freakouts. There is an effective melancholy edge to their sound which reminds me of "We Live" era Electric Wizard but Cromlech manage to forge their very own heavy homunculus which keeps their take on Doom Metal monolithic, saturnine and bewitching all at once.

Their demo EP was released as a free download at their bandcamp earlier this month so head over there and pick up some satisfyingly heavy Doom Metal for free. I'll be keeping an eye on Cromlech for future releases as I'm sure they have plenty more riffs to unleash upon the world of doom.

Band Bio:

We are called Collider and we are a sludge metal band from Ottawa, Canada. Plain and simple.



Thoughts:

"Collider has concocted three remarkable tracks of doomy sludge overflowing with progressive leanings, growling vocals and frenzied riffing. These three tracks exemplify the dynamic range the band is able to  fulfill. From the all-out sonic bludgeoning of  opener "Tundra" to the thick murky heaviness of EP closer "Titana Boa". Wedged in between those two tracks is the epicness of  "Crusher of Suns". Collider unfortunately only gives a teaser of what the band is highly capable of. Keep your ears glued to this band people."

The New Band To Burn One To today is The Stella Frays

The Stella Frays first got together in March of 2008. Lead singer and guitar player Stuart Cook first had the idea to form a band to give voice to the myriad songs that he held inside his head. He was soon joined by Gareth Hughes on bass and backing vocals and with the newest addition, the crazy Tub-thumper Jim, The Stella Frays were complete. All the members have had success with other musical projects and each brought a unique influence to the group. Their debut album Stand was released on the 16th of November 2009, backed by a distribution deal with Native and Universal Records. Since forming they have elicited a phenomenal response from all those who have heard them play and garnered a solid musical following. As exciting as 2009 has been and anticipating an even better year in 2010.
