This doom outfit caught our attention initially by
labelling themselves as ‘cool doom’ on their bandcamp page, and while we couldn’t
really describe what that means in words to you right now, they’ve hit the nail
on the head in their sound with their EP Loss, contrasting three songs of chokingly heavy doom
riffs with sweetly dreamscape vocals drifting each word around a swirly vortex,
uplifting while the guitars and percussion crush.
The opening song on the EP, ‘The Erlenmeyer Flask’ is
named after the finale episode of the first season of The X-Files TV show,
which from the outset lets you know that they’re a doom band not just singing
about sacrifices, the occult, and all other stereotypes associated to the
genre. Ex People are a genuine breath of fresh air to the doom genre, and one
that could see the band going places. Check out what we mean for yourselves
below.
