New Jersey doom `n` roll insurgents Maegashira have completed work on their full-length debut, titled The Stark Arctic. This six song epic of devastating proportions was recorded early this year with producer Lou Gorra (Halfway to Gone) at the helm for recording and mixing, and mastered by Mick Mullin (High on Fire, Intronaut, Zodiak).
When asked to describe the inspiration of the upcoming release vocalist JJ Koczan had this to say. "There are two major, if unfocused, themes for the record, and they are (1) regret and (2) escapism as a coping mechanism for that regret. I believe there are only two motives that drive the world, and they`re basically the same: Fear of death and wanting to screw. I don`t know which one Maegashira falls under, but it`s a very loving process either way. Catharsis is a part of it, but it`s less about exorcising demons and more about finding out how they got there in the first place. And then breaking equipment and screaming about them."
Maegashira (who is rounded out by George Pierro on guitars, Steve Moraghan on drums, and John Eager on bass) are expected to make a label announcement shortly.
