THE COSMIC DEAD are today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Morning Buzz...
Bio:
The Cosmic Dead are a Psych / Drone / Kosmische / Space / Krautrock collective from Glasgow, Scotland in the UK. They formed in early 2010, and have since released a couple of albums, which you can view [here]. They have played a large amount of gigs in and around Glasgow in the past year, supporting the likes of Cave, Pontiak, Abouretum, Bong & Mandog. They also collaborated with Krautrock legend Damo Suzuki live in June of 2011, actng as his 'soundcarriers'.
"With a steady trance-inducing bass line leading the way, The Cosmic Dead from Glascow, Scotland blast your mind into another galaxy. Filled with plenty of starry, flanged out feedback swirls and kaleidoscopic trips through space, the guitars beckon significant and glorious moments with soft passages and wallowing string-bends until the engines ignite and thrust you into another dimension. Plus their artwork is pretty cool as well. Grab yourself a cup of joe, put on your headphones and listen to these sonic space wranglers now!"
BUZZER is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Morning Buzz...
Bio:
Buzzer- a low tuned, heavy weight, rock trio from Tel Aviv, Israel.
Formed in 2004 by Greg buzzer and other talented individuals, in order to bring a rock wakening upon the holy land.
Inspired by booze, blues, and "Lynyrd Skynyrd", crusaders of the fuzz, have reached their unique sound, and earned their honored places under Independent roof of rock.
Buzzers are working on studio material, while continuing stage activity.
With passion for real rock music, a cold beer in both hands, completely independent from mainstream influence, Buzzer provide high quality, own-brewed sound.
"Drawing inspiration from seventies American southern rawk, Buzzer from Tev Aviv, Israel augment their sound with a greasy touch of doom. Fuzzy guitars, whiskey-damaged vocals and simple down home grooves are the perfect soundtrack for beer drinkin' and hellraisin' or in this case buzzraisin'. Get wasted!"
WIZARDRONE is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Morning Buzz...
Bio:
Wizardrone is a one-man down-tempo music project influenced by various types of doom and stoner metal. . .Formed in 2009 by Jason Wright.
"Imagine yourself being chased through a dark forest by an ominous figure that is floating behind you. You are running as fast as you can. You are not able to catch your breath. Your heart beats out of your chest. You keep looking back as the fog grows thicker. Then suddenly amongst the bleak and desolate screams you are overcome by a steady barrage of doom riffs that cut right through the fog and take over your soul. Using a variety of effects, Huntington, WV's Wizardrone create a doomtastic soundscape which startles and scares and will leave you feeling extremely uncomfortable."
ÖFÖ AM is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Morning Buzz...
Bio:
Influenced by bands ranging from Deep Purple to Unsane through Black Sabbath and Kyuss, ÖfÖ AM has chosen to remain instrumental and focus each of its pieces around a central theme.
Always in search of THE tone, Nico invents the effects used on bass and guitar since he is the creator of the stompboxe’s company "Mazzette". Their first EP is available in vinyl on Head Records.
In 2010 on Napalm Records released a split single ÖfÖ AM / Karma to Burnand their first LP was released on may 2011 on Slow Death Records…
"I guaran-fucking-tee that this all-instrumental 3-piece from Montpellier, France has a better moustache than you, well at least their drummer's anyways. ÖfÖ Am wanders its way through heavy psychedelic inspired stoner rock riffing. Unlike many instrumental bands that begin to lose your interest around the third song, ÖfÖ Am leaves you wondering what's next. Nothing flashy here, just well-played instrumental stoner rock jams. Very nice!"
COSMONAUT'S DAY is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Morning Buzz...
Bio:
From the depths of Russian underground scene comes absolutely epic spaced out sludge outfit Cosmonauts Day! Intense guitar riffing, crushing to the ground and below drum stabbing, wicked bass, dreamy solos and an atmoshere of a cold space - their music is a mind journey to the places you've never known.
Gathered in 2008 band changed it's musicians several times untill strong live line up was formed. After a year of a constant live shows Cosmonauts Day entered the studio to record their first "Live Demos" EP. Material was performed live in two days and then mixed and mastered at Destroy The Humanity Studios in Moscow. Line up at that time was Dima (EndName) - guitars, Chekan - guitars, Nikita - drums, Andres (Kamni, ex- Lord Of Doubts) - bass.
Now Cosmonauts Day are working on their first full length that will be released in autumn 2011.
"As you listen to Russian sludge/post-metal band Cosmonaut's Day, a sense of atmoshperic ambience travels around you while walls of heavy riffing bash into your skull. The music feels more tragic and freespirited and less progressive and dark than other bands within the genre. Utilizing steady transcending rhythms, precise guitar plucking and throbbing bass tones, the shall I say lack of vocals is not even missed. The music speaks loud and clear and transports you to a galaxy above and beyond."
CAST IRON CROW is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Morning Buzz...
Bio:
How does shattering your collar bone twice impact your musical career if you're a guitarist? For most this would be the end. For Jake Navarra singer of Cast Iron Crow it was one of the best things that happened to him.
Cast Iron Crow is a four piece grunge / alt metal Bay Area band that channels the sounds of their childhood. When Alice in Chains released their debut record "Facelift" in Aug of 1990, Cast Iron Crow held an average age of less than a year old. However, their early exposure to Grunge has perhaps lent itself to giving their music an effortless authenticity.
The band's sound transports the listener to a time, when MTV and the radio airwaves were dominated by the relevant and timeless music that the grunge era provided. Having consumed and digested the best rock music had to offer in the last 20 years, Cast Iron Crow has the benefit of a perspective that allows them to tastefully blend elements of their favorite sub genres of the 90's and on. A cup of Alice in Chains a pinch of Soundgarden a dash of Tool a sprinkle of a Perfect Circle... is that a hint of Motorhead?
To quote Henry Rollins "Scar tissue is stronger than regular tissue. Realize the strength, move on." After suffering his second broken collar bone in 2009, Jake was forced to quit guitar and thought his musical career might come to an end. Undeterred, he took up singing and was surprised at how naturally it came. Shortly thereafter Jake teamed up with lifelong musical co-conspirators Sam Gouveia (guitar), Joey Evans (bass), Ryan Long (drums) to form Cast Iron Crow.
Out of the gate the band marveled their native East Bay community with a surge of successful shows and by destroying a Bay Area battle of the bands competition. Praise by Tim Sult of "Clutch", Eddie Hernandez of "All Shall Parish", and a mass of new fans further propelled the band to record their debut full length record "First Edition" at legendary San Francisco institution Hyde St. Studios.
"Heavily influenced by 90's grunge acts such as Alice in Chains and Soundgarden, California band Cast Iron Crow bleeds new life into an otherwise forgotten genre. Infusing heavy-ass riffs, down-trodden rhythms and machismo vocals, this band will certainly make an imprint in your brain. Check out the two songs the band has generously offered for free download."
SCKHINN is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Morning Buzz...
Bio:
The band started off in late 2009 after a long running collaborations
in death metal/hardcore/grindcore bands, Halimi (Guitar&Vox) and
Gozlan (Drums) wanted to do their music slower but maintain the
intensity in their music they decided to form "a sludge group in the
spirit of old-school traditions". with influences from bands such as
Eyehategod, Melvins, Electric Wizard and Khanate they draw the line
between Sludge and doom to even more extreme lines such as drone.
In early 2011 Shai Izacov (Madalarm) joined on the bass and after the
idea was actually formed, and started off writing and performing at
first under the name of "The Jury Accident", and then switched off to
the current band name "Sckhinn". Currently (summer 2011) the band is
working on their debut release with No Hope from Germany, a 7" vinyl
split. the split will feature "The Voidal Escapings" that got released
on the net (just the rough mix version). The will to create the
heaviest musical bombardment that they can is the main drive for this
band.
"Sckhinn is a Sludge/Doom band from Israel. The band's torpid pace bends and slithers around a sweet doom groove as the vocals pummel away at your eardrums. According to the band's bio I do hope that there is a full-blown release from these guys soon. Doom on!"
GIANTRIDER is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Morning Buzz...
Bio:
Formed from the remains of the metal outfit known as 'WEAPON', giantrider started as a side project whilst searching for a new drummer to fit their specs. In the mean time cHrist moved his 6 string shredding abilities over to bass/big ass amps duty and vocals. Silent Mike put down his bass and sat down at the throne behind the skins. giantrider is most widely known for their live shows.
"Proudly wearing their influences on their sleeve, Giantrider are a raw, stripped-down minimalistic Stoner/Doom band from Portland,OR/Fargo,ND. When I say minimalistic I say it in the truest sense of the word. The band consists of only two members and two instruments: Chris (Bass) and Silent Mike (Drums). The bass tone absolutely sizzles as uber-fuzzy tones protrude through the amplifiers all while cymbals crash amongst a steady rhthym. This shit is Goddamn electric. Listen now! "
(((MOTHER OF SIX))) are today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Morning Buzz...
Bio:
Mother Of Six are from North Wales. The play a self styled mix of Stoner, Doom, Pop, Prog and Rock. Formed in late 2006 in the small town of Wrexham, they have been writing music and playing a wide range of interesting and varied shows both in the UK and abroad and have collected a loyal fan-base along the way. Songs have come and gone but these gigs were a testing ground for any new songs.
After a few line up changes they have settled on a formidable, strong team and are about to release their debut album called The Integral. All the blood sweat and tears have culminated in the recording of this album. This is an album of strong, varied songs and is looking to get people into buying and enjoying an actual album like the old days, before people were spoilt for choice and shuffling like mad through various different artists and styles.
The Integral should be enjoyed and a complete piece, as a journey. From the atmospheric opening Instrumental to the climactic final bars of the last song. The album is open to interpretation and is there to be enjoyed. This is the return of 'The album'.
"With a steady drone, North Wales band (((Mother of Six))) are ready to bestow their space rock fuzziness upon the world. The band methodically fuses elements of doom, stoner and prog into their ethereal sound. Well sung vocals prevail over sinister riffs, trippy keyboard effects, and heavenly melodies. Really diggin' this!"
TRAITORS RETURN TO EARTH is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Morning Buzz...
Bio:
Traitors Return to Earth formed in July of 2010 for one reason and one
reason only, that is to play the heaviest music possible at the most
unreasonable volumes. The band is influenced heavily by Sleep,
Electric Wizard, High on Fire, YOB, Sons of Otis, Weedeater and many
more. In August of 2011 they released their EP titled “Smoke Screen”.
The EP was recorded, mixed and mastered by Brian Samakis in March and
April of 2011. Since the completion of the EP Scott Simmons has
decided to depart from the band to persue other interests.
Band line until release of EP:
Chris Sherrod- Vocals
Kevin Masters- Guitars
Scott Simmons- Bass
Justin Ringle- Drums
"While caressing each note with a warm and fuzzy tone, Columbus, Ohio's Traitors Return To Earth truly embrace the power of fuzz. Gargantuan doom riffs snake themselves around painstakingly slow rhthyms, filthy as fuck bass lines and wicked snarling vocals. Play this one loud!"
HYNE is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Morning Buzz...
Bio:
Hyne is a stonerrock band from Hamburg, Germany founded in 2008. Heavy dropped tunes, droning bass and mighty drums mark the path of the giant, that's the german meaning of the band's name in a different spelling. This combo sounds just like a full throttle trip through the desert with a Mustang, or in their case maybe more like a BMW on the Reeperbahn.
"Hyne from Hamburg, Germany trounces its way through gigantic-sized riffs, rousing rhythms, and pure stoner rock grooves. The vocals lend a nasally almost Alice-Cooper feel to the sound albeit with a bit more grit. A steady hard-driving bass line ignites the motor for this mighty super-charged juggernaut."
You can contact the band through their Facebook page for a copy of your very own.
SUBSILENCE is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Morning Buzz...
Bio:
Subsilence started life the latter end of 2007 when Ed started listening to too much Candlemass and learned how to write riffs. After filling a book of ideas he scoured the planet looking for the world's finest doom musicians, but in the end had to settle for Pete, Ana and Bertie - who were basically just the only chumps in the area with enough time on their hands. But they started jamming using Ed's riffs under the premise that we were playing 'Doom'.
And the music was good; a big riff-tacular mix of heavyness, growling vocals, grooving drums and nimble basslines - too fast to be just doom, too bleak to be just stoner. After arguing for many months over what to call our little metallic collective, 'Subsilence' was chosen after the realisation that no-one had thought of it before, and the idea that our sound was so bassy it was below actual silence was kinda cool.
Having played gigs with bands like Dopefight, Dead Existence, XII Boar and many others up and down the country and after recording a demo EP with Winterfylleth front man Chris Naughton, Subsilence finally released our debut album Granite Planet in July 2011.
"Firmly entrenched in a pit of thick as tar riffs, Subsilence from the UK exudes a menacing brand of Stoner/Doom metal. Smooth fuzzy grooves, mellow bass lines and mid-tempo rhythms are glorified by the muddied warble of the vocals which bring out the bands true intention, to be Evil as Hell!"
GRANTED EARTH is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Morning Buzz...
Bio:
Hailing from Monterey Bay, California, experimental post-metal band Granted Earth was founded in April 2009 by Jon Ugale (drums/vocals), Rebecca Ugale (guitar), and Mallory Mickel (bass). The trio's first release in March 2010 is a fully instrumental album entitled “Thermal Tide". With a slight change in musical formula igniting a surge of energy, a new 2011 EP "Nomad" was born, placing a fresh mark on the band's recent sound evolution.
"Influenced by the likes of bands such as Tool, Neurosis and Opeth, Monterey, California's three-piece Granted Earth stupefy with their eclectic brand of Progressive Sludge metal. The band consisting of Jon Ugale (Drums/Vocals), Becky Ugale (Guitar), and Mallory Mickel (Bass) meanders their way through seductive progressive rhythms, fluid bass lines, captivating guitar sequences and tops it off with the addition of horrified screaming vocals. Absolutely fucking brilliant!"
SNARF is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Morning Buzz...
Bio:
Psychedelic journeys since 2003: ear breaking riffs, buzzy annoying bass lines and heavy drum patterns. SNARF are 3.
"These three dudes from Switzerland simply known as Snarf play slowwww..., sleepy, lethargic music that will not wake you up anytime soon. Interesting stops and starts, a lot of cymbal work and a warm fuzzy bass line are used to set the mood. Eerie touches of doom are complimented by spooky effects and a chilling twangy guitar. Soft lazy vocals add to the tripped out murkiness."

BUFFALO THEORY MTL is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Morning Buzz...
Bio:
History:
The members of the group Buffalo Theory Mtl, which was formed in 2008, are all veterans of the rock'n'roll and metal underground scene, Canadian and Brazilian. Influenced by groups such Black Sabbath, Down and Priestess, Buffalo Theory Mtl wants to be a rock'n'roll band above all but its repertory passes by the thrash metal and even the blues. The Demo-CD “Live in studio” which was released in March 2010 sells at an unexpected speed through the Internet and the group signs with Satanica Prod in New Zealand during the summer 2010. Buffalo Theory Mtl signs also an agreement with canadian booking agency Galy Booking at thesame time.
The group prefers to wait for “good occasions” to play live shows, rather than going all around the province via the bars network, which each member did already several times. Buffalo Theory Mtl gave its first show in March 2010 at the Café Chaos in Montreal. Then followed spectacles at the “Katacombes” (Montreal), “l’Impérial” (Quebec) and “Foufounes Électriques” (Montreal).
Gary Lyons, the bass player, is the producer of “La Grande Guignolée Underground”, which was at its fifth edition this year. The purpose of the event is to collect not-perishable food products for the ‘Sun Youth Organization’. It is a cause to which all the members of the group imply themselves very much.
Veterans:
The group is composed by members of the acoustic hardcore band Les Ekorchés (drummer, guitarist) as well as Ghoulunatics (bassist, drummer, guitarist) and Arseniq33 (guitarist, backing vocal). The singer of the group was born and raised in Brazil, recently moved to Montreal, and has played with several metal bands including The Still and Avalon. All together they played more than 1200 shows in a dozen countries, sharing the scene with groups such S.O.D., Fishbone, Testament, Korn, Sick off it All, Helmet, Sepultura, Exodus, Voivod, Rob Zombie, Limp Bizkit, Dorsal Atlântica, Avenged Sevenfold, Lamb of God, Type O Negative, Entombed, Carcass, SNFU, Marilyn Manson and Suicidal Tendencies, to name just a few. They traveled especially through Quebec and Ontario, being headliners at the largest rooms of the provinces and playing several festivals. They released 14 studio albums and have worked with producers such Glen Robinson, Pierre Rémillard, Daniel Stilling and Fred Fortin.
Looking to the future:
The group, which has its very own sound, now wants to participate on bigger events and believes this could make its music accessible to a wider public. Buffalo Theory MTL plans to record other demo songs and will launch an album until the end of 2011 which will contain English texts, French and perhaps even in Portuguese.
MEMBERS:
Anton Parr : Vocals
Pat Gordon : Guitar
Yannick Pilon : Guitar & Vocals
Gary Lyons : Bass
Brian Craig : Drums
"Out of the ashes of now-defunct deathcore band Ghoulunatics comes Buffalo Theory MTL. This five piece from Montreal stampedes its way through groove heavy, southern fried stoner metal. Each song that these guys emit is pure hellish sonic gratification. Do not stand still or you will get crushed."
STRAIGHTEN THE CROOKED is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Morning Buzz...
Bio:
From a warehouse in the bustling metropolis of Longmont, CO we give you Straighten the Crooked. Formed by Matt and Zach in August of 2009 as a punk rock band, they quickly started a search for a drummer. After auditioning a handful of drummers over the next four months Geoff finally came along and transformed the band into what it is today… A metal band with much love for all that is heavy.
After recording their first demo with Jamie at Module Overload, they set out to play some shows. After a year of playing shows, they returned to the studio, this time with Bart at Motaland, to record their first EP. We have the master, but not the funds to press. We'll get there soon enough.
"Like a huge monster truck crushing its way over mounds of scrap metal, Straighten the Crooked know how to bring the heavy. Forged in their punk roots, this three-piece from Longmont, Colorado combines doomy grooves, raucous rythyms, brawny vocals and mountainous riffs. Crack one open and crank it up!"
The band is set to perform at this year's Denver Doomfest. Click here for details.

MEGACHURCH is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Morning Buzz...
Bio:
Megachurch are a heavy rock band from Ohio who employ two bass players and eschew vocals in favor of televangelist samples. Bassist Mikey Baranick (late of the Ohio pop band Machine Go Boom), bassist Brian Michael Hill (formerly of the respected This Is Exploding) and drummer Dan Price (who Ringo’d both of those bands) convened after their groups went boom and exploded and decided to try making music without their six-strings. It turned out massively heavy, but with incredibly accessible riffs – both of the prior bands were damn fine hooksmiths – and they made a big splash in Northern Ohio right out of the gate with their March 2009 debut show. Within months of their formation, they were featured on the cover of Cleveland’s alt-weekly Scene Magazine and selected to be the lead-in band for the legendary Mission Of Burma at Cleveland’s annual very-big-deal Studio A Rama festival.
The band used the popular fundraising site Kickstarter.com to help fund the release of Megachurch 2: Judgment Day, offering everything from the album, t-shirts, and a limited release of their Megachip EP to the test pressings and original artwork for the record by Cleveland artist John G. Judgment Day is available on vinyl, cd, and digital download from the band's website at megachurch.bandcamp.com and at fine independent record stores throughout the state.
"Megachurch from Cleveland, Ohio is not your typical band. The band uses a variety of televangelist samples instead of vocals to compliment the band's instrumentals. The sound is very minimalistic. Megachurch chooses to use two bass guitars and a drummer instead of the conventional guitar. The band still manages to fulfill the listener with a ton of progressive stoner riffs and metal fury to keep your attention. Great stuff!"
THE MEDIUMS are today's NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Morning Buzz...
Bio:
We are The Mediums . . a heavy-psych-rock band from Chicago, IL.
We formed in 2008 out of the ashes of The Dirty Green, The Peelers, and The Hodads . . .
Upon our first session we decided to follow our ears to the first music that informed our
sensibilities . . late 60's to mid to late 70's hard rock/punk/proto-metal/and heavy blues damage . . .
"Every now and then a band comes along that you just can't get out of your head. That band right now is The Mediums. This band from Chicago, IL will have your ass moving in no time. The music is fuzzy, gritty and overtly psychedelic. The bluesy vocals groan amongst a wallowing bass line and a firey groove while infusing a refreshing raw and energetic passion."
