Song of the Day-Black West-"Betrayer"
"Betrayer" is taken off of the band's latest release "49/14: The Last Dream". The song immediately hits you square in the face with a solid punch of ripping sludge-riddled mayhem, it then does a 180 into some very melodic and well-executed progressive dynamics. The vocal really shines throughout the song, a clean and aggressive style that compliments the music very well. It is a sound that lies somewhere between System of a Down and Pantera. LP Review: 'Before The Fog Covers The Mount' by 1886
It was almost a year ago that hard psych group 1886
released their glorious self-titled EP which had us all dreaming of 60’s hazy
tripped out summer days with longing smiles and not a care in the world. After
much hard work, the guys from Barcelona have excelled once again with their
debut full-length Before The Fog Covers The Mount, with its dreamy riffs,
acid-dropping stoner tempos, and laid-back vocals, its a record to obsess over.
When music is so
indebted to a time in history (1960-70s) it’s important that it’s done not as a
tribute to a bygone era, but rather as if it was plucked directly from time itself, an
undiscovered gem revealed 50 years later, and that is the key to 1886’s
success; their passion, respect, and musicianship above all else takes centre stage,
coursing through each track as if it was something born within each member.
Opening with ‘Woodsman’ to soundtrack a summer’s drive along sun kissed sandy
dunes, laid-back to the point of lying down onto the earth to stop from falling
off, 1886 take you to another world, another time frame, to an almost different
consciousness, the music becomes spell-binding. They manage the heavier riffs
with as much aplomb too, as is evident in the stoner-esque ‘Witch Hunter’, the
fuzz-licking ‘The Path Through the Green Forest’, and the heavy 70’s wah-wah
tinged ‘The Seed Of Feed’.
1886 are
craftsmen at what they do. Before The Fog Covers The Mount is a stunning
collection of work that has propelled the 60’s into the modern century. It’s a
record that should be on vinyl in every serious music lovers collection.

New Band To Burn One To: GANESHA
HEAVY PLANET presents...GANESHA!
BAND BIO:
"Ganesha is a Spanish stoner-metal band formed in the begining of 2012 by Andrés Utrillas (Bass) and Hèctor Flix (Guit/Voc) then Damián Alfambra was introduced to play the drums. After a few shows we began to record our first EP "Capicorla EP" with seven songs between the sludge metal a la High on Fire and the Hard Vintage Blues from Black Sabbath with a bit of the mud from Louisiana swamps. In the middle of 2012 Damián left the band and Vassilis Pantazis took his place on the drums. Finally in the first month of 2013 Joao Neto began to play the bass in substitution of Andrés."
THOUGHTS:
"Straight out of the swamps of Barcelona, Spain...well not quite, but this three-headed power beast lays down some pretty murky southern sludge metal grooves on their latest EP Capicorla. The "EP" consists of seven short and sweet tracks which will absolutely kick your ass! Huge riffs burst amongst the guitars glorious crunch while the gritty and nasally vocalist barks the lyrics. The songs soar with melody and the impecible groove penetrates your soul. Highlighting the EP are the infectious swamp stomp "Henry Lee Von Luxx, The Sasquatch", spaghetti-western brooding of "Crossroads" and the evil doings of "Satan's Dice".

New Band To Burn One To: El Yeti
BAND BIO:
El Yeti is a power trio (though the demo was recorded as a two-piece) formed in Barcelona (Spain) on 2011 by the brothers Ed and Marc, whom previously had played in local punk bands such as Valiumbitch or Rags To Riches. We just finished our first demo, simply called "Demo". 4 songs dedicated to some of our favourite 80's action films such as Cobra, Commando, Die Hard or 48 Hrs...
Our music has already been described by some as a "powerful mix of Masters Of Reality and The Cult" or "COC meets Kyuss" thanks to the song "El Presidente" being featured in 2012's compilation of the prestigious Azkena Rock Festival (Vitoria, Spain). A festival in which has featured acts as Blue Cheer, Ozzy Osbourne, Orange Goblin, Black Label Society, Pentagram or Clutch.
THOUGHTS:
Relying on thick fuzz and cool cruisers, this Barcelona-based trio serves up a tasty four-track demo that fits snugly within your stoner rock record collection. Choppy riffage and plodding rhythms immediately snag your interest on Cold Pizza, the demo's opener. From there, things only get awesomely hazy. El Presidente has enough stop-start guitar to allow the curbside hand-drumming to steal its moment. Any way you slice it, the track is a fucking jam. Oh, and the aforementioned COC-comparison is heavily notable on Johnson, in which a Pepper Keenan vocal shroud will take you back to 90's era crossover metal. 48 Hrs. takes us home, smokes us out, and leaves us wanting more from El Yeti. This demo is available at bandcamp at a price you can name yourself, so stop over for some fuzzy goodness!
Lineup:
Marc Rockenberg: Drums, Vocals
X-Wong: Bass
Edko Fuzz: Guitar, Vocals

New Band To Burn One To: WIS(H)KEY
Heavy Planet presents...WIS(H)KEY!
Band Bio:
WIS(H)KEY is a metal band born & raised in Barcelona, Spain. 5 long-time friends united their pasion for metal & rock ‘n roll and created this monster on 2011.
WIS(H)KEY it's not your tipical 'metal’, 'crossover', ‘sludge’ band, or whatever you want to call it. This band is just an idea, a project we kept in for a long time where we wanted to mix some very different styles, that due to the most stupid of the commercial dogmas are forced to disappear... faster and faster.
This finally comes together in a mixture of Hard-Rock, Metal, Blues or Country to serve as inspiration / instigation for all ages. When dreams die, heroes become alcoholics and you still feel the need to kick the ass of the problems.
Take a bottle and get lost.
Thoughts:
"Wis(h)key is a hard-rockin', whiskey swillin' group of dudes from Barcelona, Spain. The band's notorious sound will leave a boot print on your forehead and then drag you down an emblazened gravel road of harsh southern fried groove metal. From front porch easy rocker "Train to Pardon" to a hellbound date with the devil on "Diablo" the band shows their uncanny diversity. The sweet and sultry groove comes alive on the glorious and melodic "My Beautiful Fugitive". This album is chock full of hardened gems that reward and fulfill your need for a good southern ass-whoopin'. Throw your fist in the air as you chug along to the band's latest kick-ass single for "Words in Whiskey"."The band has made their latest album available for free download. If you feel compelled to purchase the physical copy you may do so by going to this location.
