Quick Trip: ORANGE SUNSHINE - "HOMO ERECTUS"
A stunning blend of great late 60s, early 70s style psych-rock with heavy stoner fuzz sensibilities has been captured on this nearly 2 decade old album by Orange Sunshine. Listening to it is sort of a double deja vu by going back to the band's early days of the new century where they brilliantly captured the sound of 4 decades prior, the decades of flower power, of tripping on mind altering pharmaceuticals and mind blowing heavy rock, the decades of musical captivation and discovery.
The music on this album has an almost magical immersive quality to it, whether you lock yourself into your mancave and test the limits of your speakers, lock yourself out from your surroundings with headphones, or utilize your car's bluetooth functionality on that long roadtrip, you will quickly find that even without the help of pharmaceuticals your mind is expanding in pleasurable and exciting ways. The spells cast on this album are rendered with mystical guitar work that colorfully penetrates to a pulsing primal core, led by vocals that use that great breakout quality of rock vocalists of the era and accompanied by a superior, groovy beat of drums, and rapturously cool bass bonanza.

Song of the Day-Snowburner-"Ride the Tide"
"Ride the Tide" is taken off of the upcoming release "Future Primitive" due out January 2016. Let's face it, when you listen to stoner rock it is pretty much about a catchy riff and a killer groove, and Snowburner does both very well. Once the feedback subsides, the song explodes like a riff cannon set to devastate everything in its projected path with well-executed timing and precision. Just sit back and enjoy the ride! Quick Hit-Whooom
It is apparent that this band from The Netherlands likes food, monsters and beer, a lot. After releasing a few songs earlier this year with titles such as "Gorgonzilla" and "Bacon Bath", the band has just released their crowning achievement "Lager" featuring more of the tongue-in-cheek psych-infested Stoner/Sludge this dude has come to love. The songs are not short, with 4 out of the five clocking in at 9 minutes plus. Today's smorgasbord is filled with the likes of the meaty track "Beefsquatch", the riff-filled belly buster "Sandwitches" and for dessert, the psychedelic brain freeze "Kokonut Kong". New Band To Burn One To: ¡PENDEJO!
"In 2010, the world was introduced to Holland's latin-infused hard-driving Stoner Rock band Pendejo via their release "Cantos a la Vida". Somehow over the course of the past four years this band has managed to elude the watchful ears of the Heavy Planet staff. With that being said, not only would we like to offer Pendejo as today's "New Band To Burn One To", but would also like to extend our apologies to our Heavy Planet faithful for not featuring this band sooner.
The latest album "Atacames" is a whirlwind of heavy, sincere, in-your face fuzzed-out stoner grooves. Founded by two cousins with a history in Latin America, the band brings a latin-flair to their music by adding vocals grumbled and barked in Spanish and a blaring trumpet that tears right through the devastating riffage.
At the suggestion of Pieter Kloos who has worked with the likes of Barkmarket, Ween and 35007, the band decided to record most of the material live. The album was recorded at The Void Studio in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. The suggestion paid off as the album brings out the band's unbridled energy and passion.
Like an atomic blast to the chest, songs such as the scorching album opener "El Verano del '96" and head-bobber "Amor Y Perenza" leave you lying on the floor gasping for air. The slow warm fuzz of 'Camaron" gives way to a series of shotgun blasts and segues into one fuckin' killer groove not once, but twice, with the second time preceded by a devilish dance of trumpets. By far my favorite track on the album.
Listen to ¡PENDEJO! now. You'll be glad you did. Excelente!
"Dos" is the album's first "single". Check out the skull-bashing rage right here:

Sunday Sludge: Ortega - "Crows"
"How can you listen to that screaming and all that noise?" I can't listen to it for you, and explaining to you why I love the music I do would parallel Neil deGrasse Tyson trying to convince Ken Ham of just about anything. There's a catharsis, I guess. There's a tightening and a release, a heave and a purge, even a melody here or there. But without a hook, a lyric you can understand, or a three-minute force-fed package of polished shit, you'll never hold their attention. And that's sad.
You're not gonna find much elation in Ortega's Crows, a one-track taste from the nederlanders' as-yet unnamed album expected later this year. The near-nineteen minute crusher is as close to despondent as you could imagine, but fuck all if it doesn't sound goddamn delicious. Crows offers a couple smoke breaks, but when the swells become storms, make sure your neighbors aren't watching. Continuing in the band's style of "epic ocean doom," the heights, depths, and expanses are explored in the track's rich, blackened turmoil.
Density saturates the onset, slowly coaxing us into a mammoth cavern offering little light and even less life. Waves smack, vocals emerge from the darkest depths, and Ortega go heavy on the post metal via majestic licks piercing a darkened sky. Somber reflection marries isolation, somehow spanning the most vast of scopes. Weathered forms start to give and the sounds crack everything they touch. Peppered in are distant plucks, circling and dazing until a viscous push swallows and distends. Listeners won't notice the burning hum, as the stomp of sludge delivers far more devastation.
Spiraling nightmares trump the burning buzz, unlocking trapped memories and tripping a black stutter that tries to tell us there's no redemption, no inward glimpse of hope. Here again, Ortega jump the tracks between violent and tranquil, but Crows offers an existential fade that's more internally combative than their previous efforts. Freedom from death's grips simply isn't on the menu this morning. But some find beauty in death. Some find beauty in darkness. Some will get it.

Sunday Sludge: No Gods No Masters
I'm not sure what kind o' back alley I've stumbled into, but things got sketchy quick. There's no light, no sign of exit, and the smell of hot shit wrapped in burnt hair is overwhelming. I'm not even certain what I thought I'd find down here, but I'm confident I can expect to get tossed around and come up bloodied. This isn't an ache. This is straight-up Sunday Sludge pain.
The Netherlands must be a sticky matrix of grit and wet fur. There's no other explanation for this self-titled EP from No Gods No Masters, a stomping southern-sludge act donning a NOLA mask and spitting shrapnel. Four tracks cover nineteen minutes, which is just long enough for your breathing to dip and your heart to stop. A groove this violent is sure to crack your sternum and fuck up your night.
Opening with incredibly dense fuzz on the slow-rolling Ni Die Ni Maitre, the hardening glaze of the EP is immediately evident. The chop is loaded with scorching spite, a Dimebag nod via guitar pullback slipping through the chops. In true backwoods fashion, the mud-slung stomp n' smear is fist-cranked, churning sludge that we haven't enjoyed in some time. Grainy feedback channels a phone booth freak out on Lie to Me, buzzing and scraping atop repeated strikes against bone. The seemingly endless surge leads toward an escalation of mood, swirling into lost footing and tumbling downward in thorny patches. Get up.
Balance is demonstrated on Lost for Words. Parting the knotty cruisers, the track is slower and mistier; ominous tones and cautious tempos forecast clouds with an 80% chance of total collapse. The pace lifts in the vein of Acid Bath's Dope Fiend, never quite leaving the sludge and never quite overdosing on double kicks. The drumwork chugs through any obstruction on this dark track, but the closer (Retired) is a greater storm of swollen riffs. Southern aggression here slams into weathered walls with smash-and-grab abandon. Guitars step away and lead closing sirens, leaving you to pass out as ants fight on your blaring television.
A sock stuffed with a padlock just kissed your jaw, a violent groove soaked in mud and reeking of antipathy. No Gods No Masters deliver blow after blow, but this is the beating you sought. Adhering to a strict sludge recipe of simmering filth and down-tuned animosity, the band presents one hell of an introduction. You thought they'd shake your hand. Turns out they just wanted to bust your nose, douse you with petrol, and light a single match.

LP Review - Toner Low "III"
Toner Low are a band from the Netherlands that formed in 1998 and their latest release "III" is their 3rd release, of course. They say you should never judge a book by its cover and I suppose the same could be said for a CD, tape or LP, but with Toner Low's latest, the cover is quite telling and very inviting indeed.
Continuing on from 2008's "II" with tracks simply titled "Phase 1-5", "III" contains tracks "Phase 6-9" and what Toner Low bring here is more of their ultra heavy psych-doom with a low end tone that is so damn low and driving that it bores a hole right into your chest like a 1,000 ton tunnel boring machine. I had an actual complaint from my landlord that the bass was too heavy and was rattling his windows downstairs so I waited until I knew he would be out before I cranked this mother of an album up, fired up a bowl or 3 and immersed myself in the very heavy weight frequencies laid forth by Toner Low on "III".
"Phase 6" begins with backwards percussion leading to churning and tumbling riffs and thunderous drum work with a sonic weight behind it all that is so resonant that it rattles everything within a wide area. Distant cries call from within the bass onslaught and heavily effected and grimy guitar licks squirm in and out as this huge monstrosity of a track breathes in and out vast clouds of thick green smoke.
"Phase 7" hangs on some electronic hum for a brief moment before plunging and hypnotic riffs take the tone lower still, the track sloths along in no hurry at all, giving the listener the chance to savor every rib rattling frequency. There are fleeting calmer moments but soon the massive throb returns but this time adding even more weight showing that explorations in heavy music are not limited by anything but imagination and Toner Low show here that theirs is of a kind fixed firmly on experimenting with the low tone. This track ends in a chaos of twisting psychedelic noise that had me thinking of a Butthole Surfers live show with Gibby and his "Gibbytronix" in all its full on bad trip splendor.
"Phase 8" opens with vague and droning organs and plodding drums followed by atmospheric and moody bass and guitar jams that float dreamily, lulling the listener into a peaceful trance. The tracks drops to the organ drone for a moment before the huge plunging bass heavy riffs are unleashed with the organ sounding out louder to aid in an almost evangelical praise at the alter of the riff within the church of the heavy. Godly chants sound out a cosmic prayer while relentless riff delivery gives pleasing massages to the soul. It is so easy to get lost within the trance that Toner Low induce so when they have unexpected breaks in their groove, one is woken from the trance suddenly where Toner Low lay on even heavier and hypnotically groovy riffs with which to savor. It's a very clever move by Toner Low as it kept me interested in what I was hearing.
"Phase 9" drifts from silence towards a catchy bass line and quiet radio interference and drifting feedback. A lazy swaggering riff and complimentary drum thuds and smacks kicks things into gear to unfold a heavily stoned behemoth of depth dwelling noise. Creepy echoing guitars sneak in to give an uneasy edge before descending into filthy sludge dregs that pushes my bass cab to its limits. I had to turn the bass down a bit for fear of my windows cracking or me getting a nose bleed. This is Toner Low at their most dark and repressive and is easily on a par with the horrifying bleakness of bands like Moss and Cough. The singer turns his voice to eerie choir singing that adds an ancient vibe of mysterious monks chanting in the cold stone darkness of some long forgotten crypt. The chanting vanishes to leave a barrage of weighty and memorable riffs that culminate in an instrumental freak out which then drops to lone bass line followed by a quietly weeping piano melody which ends the track in an emotive send off for Toner Low's "III".
Get over to their Bandcamp now to purchase this landmark and essential release in the world of heavy music.

New Band To Burn One To: WANGUNST
HEAVY PLANET presents...WANGUNST!
BAND BIO:
2013 marks the debut of Tilburg stoner-outfit Wangunst. From the deep south of the Netherlands, this power trio kicks you in the face with balls-to-the-wall riffage somewhere between stoner and sludge. Debut-EP 'Kempisch Ongemak' (Kempisch Discomfort) contains three originals in the vein of EYEHATEGOD, MYSTIC KREWE OF CLEARLIGHT, DOWN, KYUSS, WO FAT, SNAIL and many others. Their rendition of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band's classic Blackbird Special homages both the rhythm 'n blues and stoner tradition of New Orleans.

Zac's "Double Dose": Herder / Temple
Herder: Horror Vacui
A soundtrack of horrors with ample listen-ability? That seems like a paradox if I've ever heard one. But really that is the only way to describe what Westereen (Netherlands) based sextet Herder are spewing, and yes this sludge is spewed forth with a passion and intensity so thick that it will coat your ear canals for days. Horror Vacui is the title of Herder's 2012 release and with-holds the very meaning of the music that awaits within. Horror vacui, in relation to art, means a fear of empty space. Guess what the one thing you will find very little of here on Horror Vacui is? Empty space. You won't have a moment of airy clarity here, just incessant murky energy that will leave your mind a bit more claustrophobic than it was before you pressed play. This doom and sludge bred bastard is so dense with sound that you will certainly sink in it. However, there is an un-suppressed amount of melody that contains the sullied and contaminated sludge that flows so freely here, bringing ties to the southern groove pioneers like Pantera and Crowbar. Even more potent than the melodic nature of Herder is their signature three way guitar onslaught. While the rhythm section certainly set the momentum and drive each song its these three separate guitars groovin' and thrashin' in unison that set Herder apart from other sludge and doom focused musicians. Check out their terrifying artwork and albums name-sake Horror Vacui below or head over to Reflection Records web-store to order a copy.

Temple: On The Steps Of The Temple
A church, a mosque, a synagogue, a temple. These places we, as humans, call holy come in many different names and forms. Universally, though, we find ourselves in these areas for one reason. To dig, to reflect, and to discover more about ourselves and the world around us. Music can also be a tool used to enhance this search, whether it is heard at one of these sites in the form of sacred music, chanting, or even in a place as comfortable as your own living room. Today's second 'Dose uses the idea of a temple in and throughout their debut release On The Steps Of The Temple, even to the point of naming of the band, Temple. This creates a hugely conceptual nature to the overall package (I mean... look at that killer album art!), begging to be explored, just like a temple should. What Temple have done here with On The Steps Of The Temple is combined the atmosphere of post-metal with the intensity and aggression of the most extreme forms of metal. Here, On The Steps Of The Temple your minds eye will be clobbered by an onslaught of percussion via blast beats and good old fashioned heavy drumming. The guitars follow up Temple's percussive drive with introspective passages, sludge-laden RIFF-AGE, and haunting solos. So, take the first stride onto ...The Steps... and patiently listen to what Temple will unravel. Who knows, you may find some answers...

Nuclear Dog's Atomic Split: Indian Handcrafts - "Civil Disobedience For Losers" / Binford - "Binford"
Many of the artists we showcase on Heavy Planet have similar experiences when forming their current bands. Members have previously played in other bands, that over time don't quite work out for whatever reason, but not before deep and almost spiritual relationships are formed between like minded musicians, either from within the old band, or from other bands going through similar experiences. which leads to the creation of new bands, often with amazing, spectacular results. Most of the bands I've had the good fortune to review this year have traveled down this road, a karmic path where mighty axes of doom forge kinships resulting in the finest music imaginable throughout the far reaches of the cosmos. While the exact styles of today's two features are solar systems apart, the inner core of their sound, of what they play remains the same - supernova guitars that reverberate with the force and the fury of the universe's first instant, expanding outward in an onslaught of power and brilliance. Binford from the Netherlands and Indian Handcrafts from Canada are, each, quality artists, one of a kind musicians, a considerable grade above the norm, with music seemingly crafted in the finest cosmic forges the universe has to offer.
INDIAN HANDCRAFTS - "CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE FOR LOSERS"
Indian Handcrafts are 2 guys from Ontario, Canada, or The Land of the Ice and Snow, as they describe on Facebook.
Brandyn James Aikins takes care of drums and vocals while Daniel Brandon Allen handles guitar and vocals. No place for bass. Interesting.
There may only be two guys . . . one guitar and one trap kit between them . . . but there is a ton of music in their songs. These are the kind of songs in which you discover something new each time you listen through the album. There is more than just one guitar lick, more than one riff, more than a simple straightforward rendition of rock music from beginning to end.
The standard traits found in good stoner/doom music is, of course, here, with the huge, down tuned and fuzzy guitars driving the sound throughout. They make it abundantly clear on the opening of the first track of the album, "Bruce Lee", that they are a stoner/doom kind of band. The sound is one you've heard a million times, one you cherish as part of the signature sound of this great music. But very quickly you will discover that Indian Handcrafts are more than typical when the vocals kick in. This band's vocals are quite unique, a sort of modulated screech, which sounds too harsh in description, but is quite exquisite in actual rendition. The singularity of the vocals alone place their music up on a high standard. There's nothing quite like it out there that I've heard. The closest I could get is probably Corinne Tucker's beautiful screeching vocals for Sleater-Kinney, but Indian Handcrafts use more harmony on their vocals, modulating the sound for a truly beautiful quality that serves the rock and roll universe well, and is uniquely their own.
In addition to the incomparable and splendid vocal stylings of this Canadian dynamic duo are the songs themselves. Indian Handcrafts have handcrafted ten superbly written and executed songs, where both lyric and instrumentation combine to create the most pleasurable of stoner rock experiences.
"Worm in My Stomach" begins with a steady forward advance through melody and fuzz and ends with a superb up tempo stretch of sheer delight. This is followed by a quick and deadly onslaught of fury and speed in "Terminal Horse" where the drums of Aikins are front, center, and deadly in delivery, but not to be topped by Allen's demented and crazed guitar blitzkrieg.
Haunting and beautiful, wrapped in distortion and fuzz, "Coming Home" is memorable, powerful, and brilliant.
Another top song on the album is the equally beautiful "Centauri Teenage Riot". The vocals are ferocious and haunting, the guitar and drums unrelenting. The album closes out with "Lion at the Door" an adventurous, return on your investment kind of song, chock full of wonderous forays of voice and string, executed with heart, acrimony, and dexterity.

BINFORD - "BINFORD"
Hailing from Roosendahl, Netherlands, and formed just last year in 2011, Binford are very much an up and coming band. They have a front woman who really belts out the vocals and are comprised of four additional musicians of the highest order.
Binford consist of:
Esther Vroegop - Vocals
Don Leenders - Bass, Backing Vocals
Stefan van Geel - Rhythm Guitar, Backing Vocals
Arjan Nieuwlaat - Lead Guitar
Jonathan Skip - Drums
These guys go all out in their music, writing wonderful standards and playing at full tilt, fronted by the beautiful and powerful vocals of Esther, showcasing the scorching laserbeam guitar work of Arjan, and perfectly wrapped up in the retro stoner sounds of Don's bass, Jon's drums, and the mega fuzz guitar of Stefan.
"Slate" pefectly opens the album, quickly displaying the beautiful guitar work found throughout this album. Esther's vocals quickly, too, are front and center adding to the aesthetic nature of the music with her full, rich, effortless vocals. Binford don't so much play solos as much as they are constantly expressing different riff stages throughout the song, some solo-like in intensity and tone, some displaying more fuzz and power, but always accompanying the underlying melody and rhythm as well as the vocals.
"Overdrive" could be said to be a retro type of song as the melody and rhythm are similar to some of the best rock songs in history while somehow managing to display it's own unique aspects to the delivery, adding special touches in distortion and vocalizations, as well as powerful outbursts of change and joy.
A more haunting melody in the beginning, "Forgot Your Name" manages to showcase Esther's vocals before and after a solo bridge in which the song executes an increase in tempo, as well as brandishing the dexterity and sound of bass, drums, and scorching solos.
"Subterfuge" is a high energy beauty, with melody once again front and center, delivered exquisitely by the band's superb instrumentation of power and brilliance. The solo section on
this song is perhaps the album's best.
Binford save the biggest, fuzziest songs for last, as stoner bands tend to do. Both "Red Light Changin'" and "Irish Red" are an absolute barrage of down tuned, distorted guitar that plays like a dream, embellished perfectly, once again, by Esther's vocals. They are perfect songs to close out a near perfect album.
Binford are immensely talented and supremely motivated. The stars seemed to have aligned for them with the formation of these 5 well matched musicians who both take their music seriously and have an immeasurable amount of fun playing it, as much fun as you will surely experience when listening to their wonderful stoner rock sound.

New Band To Burn One To: ORTEGA
HEAVY PLANET presents...ORTEGA!
BAND BIO:
Ortega is a four-piece sludge/doom collective from the north of The Netherlands. Four men tell a tale of the sea which is told in a broad and visual manner. the sound is best described as dark metal balanced with soundscapes and slow, heavy riffs. Formed in 2007, the band recorded their debut album ‘1634’ in 2009 after a series of gigs, which they eventually released it in January 2010. 1634 was recorded and mixed by JB van der Wal (Herder, Aborted), who is also known for his work as a producer for Dr. Doom, Greyline, Grinding Halt and Suffering Quota. 1634 was released as a concept album and received many great reviews. The CD was distributed online and sold at concerts, packaged in a limited handmade cover. In 2011 they re-released the album on cassette. Aesthetic Death re-released 1634 in 2012 as a deluxe black on black digipack with uv spot varnish, 8-page booklet and renewed artwork. The band went back into the studio in 2011, again with JB van der Wal, to record their follow-up EP, A Flame Never Rises On Its Own, which was released by Badger Records in 2012. In 2012 They went to the studios yet again to record another EP,The Serpent Stirs; their longest output so far, clocking over 18 minutes of psychedelic doom. This release is set for nov/dec 2012 to be released as a limited cassette by Tartarus Records.
THOUGHTS:
"Today's band is merely one you need to hear rather than one to burn one to. This band from the Netherlands brings forth what could be called epic Ocean Doom. The music at one moment sounds like a ship drifting on calm waters then suddenly gets overcome by huge crashing waves caused by a drenching storm and blasts into the ship over and over. Once the devastation commences, the calm waters prevail and you are then guided into the peaceful darkness of the night. The music is carried by cannon-like drumming, a huge wall of sound and throat-shredding vocals. After high acclaim of "A Flame Never Rises On It's Own", the band has just released the 18-plus minute epic "The Serpent Stirs". Go to their Bandcamp page to listen to it now!"
To help others enjoy this awesome band, please leave a comment as to whom you think this band "sounds like" or may be "for fans of". Thanks!

New Band To Burn One To: MENHIR
Heavy Planet presents... MENHIR!
Today's "New Band To Burn One To" hails from The Netherlands.
Band Bio:
Hailing from somewhere between a rock and a hard place, we intend to cast the first stone.
Menhir is a three-piece stoner/southern rockband from somewhere between a rock and a hard place.
Menhir is solid, Menhir is heavy, Menhir is a big-ass monolith but in stereo.
Menhir was founded by Lurr, Kang and Zim in January 2012 and will probably go on until the second coming of the Stone Age, and then they will sleep.
Lurr: Guitar
Kang: Drums
Zim: Bass

Thoughts:
"This gargantuan known as MENHIR completely levels you with their unique take on Stoner/Sludge metal. The music contained within this abbreviated introduction to the band consists of mega-heavy stoner-riffs, bottom feeder basslines and pieced together TV news clips which give way to guttural bellows and wicked throat aerobics that engulf the mic and proceed to thoroughly kick your ass. Albeit short, with only 3 songs and available for FREE download, MENHIR will forever be embedded in this listener's cranium. Amazing that this band has only been together since January 2012. All I can say is...more please!"

New Band To Burn One To (Evening Buzz): BANDITO
BANDITO is today's "NEW BAND TO BURN ONE TO" Evening Buzz...
Bio:
In the Italian language Bandito means ban, but in popular culture it just means bandit, villain or miscreant. Bandito sounds like a 70’s muscle car, a dangerously growling 4 wheeled monster that mushes through you grandma’s freshly raked garden, dragging everything on its way into the dark abyss.
Bandito, that’s hard rock like hard rock should sound! Raw, rocking, honest and vile. This quintet combines influences from Kyuss, Down, Truckfighters and Atomic Bitchwax, all of this executed with a 70’s hard rock style attitude.
This band combines fat double-barreled guitars, a throbbing bass, banging drums and a fervently singer who shouts his lungs out to rock so tight and sexy as the tiny shirt betty page has on and as energetic as a Mexican fighting dog on amphetamine.
On their untitled debut EP, which saw life late 2009, Bandito hammers her vile rock in your face so hard, that your hair spontaneously starts to wave. Now they have a sequel to their first EP, namely “II”. On this plaque of vinyl Bandito shows that they have grown in their sound. More solo’s, everything destructing guitar-riffs and deafening drums will make you bang your head even harder.
In 2009 Bandito took the head and spectators price in the Roos van Nijmegen contest, so they continued to the next and the next contest where they showed everybody they meant business and took the head prices there too. The rest of the world has met Bandito in the meantime, they have radio airtime from Ireland to Mexico.
This five headed rock monster has showed lots of stages home and abroad that they put on a very rough and complete rock show. Bandito has played festivals including De Affaire, Hunten- pop, De Gesel van Gelderland, Back 2 School Festival and Rock Royale. Stages wich have been burned down by their energy are the likes of Doornroosje, De Willemeen, De Groene Engel, Het Bolwerk and De Melkweg.
Hard rock from the upper shelf with double-barreled guitars and rough, hoarse vocals. Fine feeding for the hard fuzz loving hard rock fan.

"Usually this is where I like to add my two cents, but the bio pretty much says it all. This is stoner rock at it's finest people. Both of the band's EPs are available for free download on Bandcamp now!"

New Band To Burn One To-Tow Truck
Today's "New Band To Burn One To" is Tow Truck. The band comes to us from the Netherlands. The band plays a down and dirty style of melodic Stoner Rock in the vein of Fu Manchu and Karma To Burn. The band has a bit of a history with many of the members coming from different musical backgrounds, (for more info click here) but bring it all together for some very catchy tunes. You can preview a few of the tracks that they have posted on their MySpace page. The band has just released an EP called "Smoke" below is a very favorable review.
"A big surprise from the Netherlands. Towtruck released their first Demo CD called SMOKE and it is a masterpiece of european Stoner Rock! Sometimes it reminds me on some CELESTIAL SEASON or CANDYBAR PLANET stuff. The opener 52xSPEED is a great Stoner Rock song, but the following, 10 minute crusher TIC (IN MY HEAD) is a masterpiece. Fat riffs mixed with brilliant clear guitars and over all thrones the mighty and melodic voice of Paolo. This is the sound Celestial Season did in their best times. HOAX POCUS is very slow and a great Doom Rock song. Especially the voice shows some comparison to the Southern Rock stuff or to melodic Down. This is the sound to smoke and lay down to relaxe. At the end a Black Sabbath like riff starts and put some speed into it! KILLER! TRAVELING DESERT is a typical Stoner song in mid-tempo. Again awesome guitar work and excellent vocals. The last song MAKIN` FRIENDS can´t hold that high standard, but that is no problem. The first four songs are awesome and maybe the best release from an european Stoner Rock bands since month. I hope this band will sign a huge deal soon!" Jochen (Daredevil)
