Legendary Boston sludge/doom metal band GRIEF has called it quits. Bassist Eric C. Harrison states, "Our reasons for disbanding are our reasons. We have chosen not to get into it but it may or may not include the following reasons.
* Jeff [Hayward; vocals, guitar] has finally become Rip Van Winkle and will be asleep for the next 50 years.
* Ray [McCaffrey; drums] has finally eaten so much that he can not fit out of the door to his house and is unable to leave home
* John [Heidenrich; guitar, vocals] has become so death metal that we' d have to actually be ghosts to jam with him and none of us feel like it.
* Eric finally became an actual dog and has not learned how to play bass or do artwork with his paws.
"We will not be playing the Maryland Deathfest in May of 2009.
"We're sorry for anyone that this disappoints, but whatever. Shit happens."
GRIEF was founded in 1991 by DISRUPT guitarist Terry Savastano and drummer Randy Odierno (who later switched to bass). They broke up in 2001 mainly due to drummer problems. They also cited what they called a "hostile environment for doom metal bands." They reunited for the first time in July 2005 to play a number of live shows.

WOLFMOTHER No More?
According to Undercover News, a split has occurred between WOLFMOTHER singer/guitarist Andrew Stockdale and the other two founding members of the Australian hard rock band, Chris Ross and Myles Heskett.
Manager John Watson told Undercover News, "Unfortunately, I can't make any comment other than to say that as soon as the band has clear future plans they will issue a statement and we hope to be able to do that in the next week or two."
Tim Cashmere from Undercover News witnessed an uneasy distance and tension between Stockdale and the other two members during the Splendour In The Grass performance over the weekend and now people involved with the band have told Undercover that we will probably never see them together again. "That was it," one insider told Undercover. "That was their last show. It is all over for WOLFMOTHER."
WOLFMOTHER's first live DVD, "Please Experience Wolfmother: Live", was released in North America in November 2007 via Interscope. The disc is a live recording of the band's Sydney homecoming in 2006 at the Hordern Pavilion. Bonus features include further live performances from Brixton Academy and the ARIA Awards ceremony, plus five promo videos and "Meet the Mother", an exclusive introduction to the band.
