BLOOD OF THE TYRANT, LITANY FOR THE WHALE, SAVIOURS

Today, I have a some cool new shit for you guys to check out as well as some news on the Planet Caravan Festival and the ever popular "New Band To Burn One To" feature. Keep it all coming, I will eventually get around to it. Please be patient with me as I do this in my spare time. Also, if your band is featured please show common courtesy and at least provide a thank you. The band LSD & D showed no appreciation, so fuck them. Anyways, on with the show.

Here are a few bands to keep an eye out for in the coming months:

Chicago, IL technical death/doom/progressive outfit BLOOD OF THE TYRANT; a fiercely dedicated and undeniably talented four-piece who've been making quite a name for themselves around the Chicago area, touring mercilessly and sharing stages with the likes of Minsk, Yakuza, Battlefields, Kongh, Lair of the Minotaur, and many more. They've even been honored with their own 'Blood of the Tyrant' Burger at famed heavy metal eatery Kuma's. The band cite influences as diverse as Mastodon, Black Sabbath, Converge, Goblin, Meshuggah, and Neurosis when it comes to their distinctive, eclectic sonic assault, and are sure to appeal to fans across the heavy music spectrum.

Santa Rosa, CA's LITANY FOR THE WHALE are as hard to categorize as their cryptic, vaguely unsettling moniker may suggest. Combining the epic, doomy hardcore of Cursed with the crusty sensibilities of Kylesa, their expansive, noisy sound borrows as much from the Jesus Lizard as it does Battlefields. The band recently completed the recording of their debut album Dolores at Prairie Sun Studios (The Melvins) and features artwork by Chris Taylor (Darkest Hour, Pig Destroyer, Pg 99). Look for the album on CD (and digital) from TBD Records, with the vinyl being handled by MolSook Records and The Perpetual Motion Machine. Litany for the Whale are currently gearing up for a full US tour to promote Dolores, and are aiming for nothing less than total sonic devastation.

Oakland, CA metal masters SAVIOURS made a special appearance on Fuel TV’s “The Daily Habit” on August 6. The celebrated band performed the brand new songs “We Roam” and “Slave to the Hex” from its impending new album Accelerated Living, which is set for an October 27, 2009 release via Kemado Records. Saviours Announces North American Tour Dates

Explosive, Oakland, CA band Saviours has announced North American tour dates in support of their celebrated new album, Into Abaddon. Saviours will join heavy metal veterans Iced Earth for a run of dates set to kick off September 21 in Detroit, MI. Saviours will also headline a number of live dates both previous to joining up with Iced Earth, and on off nights during the tour.

Hot off a blistering performance as part of Norway’s ØYA Festival (where the band shared the stage with Mayhem, Grinderman, Mogwai, and more) and a recent run across Europe alongside labelmates The Sword, Saviours continue to tour relentlessly, bringing their commanding live show to stages across the globe. Known for their refreshing take on the classic metal of decades past, Saviours have rapidly become frontrunners in today`s thriving heavy metal underworld, spewing vocal wildfire over an endless arsenal of harmonized guitars and locomotive rhythms.


On the topic of the tour with Iced Earth, Saviours drummer Scott Batiste comments, "We`re stoked to get on the road with these power metal legends. There is much destruction and raging to come."


In more Saviours news, the band has announced the addition of guitarist Sonny Reinhardt (Watch Them Die) to its ranks. Reinhardt will join Saviours on the road for the upcoming North American tour dates. Saviours have also begun prepping songs for Into Abaddon’s follow up, set for release in 2009. The new material is said to be “insanely dynamic,” boasting passages containing “three part guitar harmonies.”


Saviours’ Into Abaddon was produced, engineered and mixed by "Evil" Joe Barresi. Over the years, Barresi has consistently worked with quality artists and made some of their more seminal records - Tool`s 10,000 Days, Melvins` Stoner Witch, and Queens of the Stone Age`s debut, to name a few.


Alongside Batiste, Saviours features guitarist/vocalist Austin Barber, guitarists D. Tyler Morris and Sonny Reinhardt and bassist Cyrus Comiskey.

SAVIOURS Announce New Guitarist

Oakland, California's SAVIOURS have announced the addition of guitarist Sonny Reinhardt (WATCH THEM DIE) to the group's ranks. Reinhardt will join SAVIOURS on the road for the upcoming North American tour with ICED EARTH and INTO ETERNITY. SAVIOURS have also begun writing songs for the follow-up to their sophomore album, "Into Abaddon", which came out on January 22, 2008 via New York City's Kemado Records. The new material is said to be "insanely dynamic," boasting passages that contain "three-part guitar harmonies."

"Into Abaddon" was produced, engineered and mixed by Joe Barresi, who has previously worked on such seminal records as TOOL's "10,000 Days", MELVINS' "Stoner Witch" and the QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE debut.

SAVIOURS: 'Narcotic Sea' Video Posted Online

Oakland, CA quartet SAVIOURS' brand new music video — for the track "Narcotic Sea" — can be viewed here. (Note: Video stream may not be available to some non-U.S. residents.) The clip will make its world television premiere as part of the February 19 edition of MTV2's long-running "Headbangers Ball" program.

"Narcotic Sea" is taken from SAVIOURS' critically acclaimed new album "Into Abaddon" (Kemado Records). The video was directed by Dante Della Maggiore ("Zombie Attack!") and features the band performing the song in a live setting as a consciousness-expanding quasi-storyline unfolds.

"The 'Narcotic Sea' video is basically about being in a self-induced haze during the Earth's final days," SAVIOURS drummer Scott Batiste explains. "We wanted to capture 'a little bit of Oakland' in our first video so, part of the video features us jamming out in a West Oakland warehouse. The rest is us on a quest for killer times in spite of all the decay and depression that surrounds us each day. We took a trip up Highway 1 (north of San Francisco) and hit up some killer rock formations and beaches and just partied, basically. Dante Della Maggiore, who directed the video, then took all of the footage and tripped it out as hard as possible. We're very stoked on how it turned out and we're ready for the world to get a glimpse of what SAVIOURS is about."

SAVIOURS are currently in the midst of a massive U.S. tour alongside fellow Bay Area hessians HIGH ON FIRE.

One of the best bands that I have heard in a while is SAVIOURS. Hailing from Oakland, CA, SAVIOURS deliver some of the most infectious riff rock on the planet. If you are a fan of bands such as MASTODON, HIGH ON FIRE, THE SWORD, etc., I strongly suggest listening to SAVIOURS.
